Scarlett Johansson on why Black Widow's "amazing origin" makes the superspy her favourite character

There are few who'd deny that Scarlett Johansson is one of the most versatile actresses working today; From Under the Skin to Lost in Translation, she's had a number of great roles throughout her 20 year career. As such, it's no surprise that she acknowledged the difficulty in picking out a favourite character in a recent interview with Michigan Avenue Magazine, but she ultimately settled on Black Widow:

"I really like playing Natasha; playing the Black Widow. It’s been an interesting journey, to take a character and grow it over these years, and peel the layers back and be able to, as you do in life, grow with this person. It’s a character that’s really enigmatic and has an amazing origins story, so there’s a lot for me to play off of".

The TV show like storytelling of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has meant that we've learned a little more about Black Widow each time she's made an appearance, so she has effectively had a full character arc despite the lack of a solo movie. Audiences have proven that they love Johansson's portrayal of the character, so here's hoping we get that solo movie announcement sooner rather than later.

Directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, and starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey, Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chadwick Boseman, Tom Holland, Anthony Mackie, and Sebastian Stan, Captain America: Civil War arrives in digital format in the US on September 2. The Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, and DVD hit the UK on September 5 and the US on September 13.
