Saoirse Ronan joins Snow White adap Order Of The Seven

Just when you begin to think that two live-action Snow White films are quite enough, along comes another – this time in the form of Disney’s long-gestating The Order Of The Seven .

The fairytale update (previously known as Snow And The Seven ) has been attempting to birth itself for almost a decade, and has almost bagged itself a waiflike lead in the form of Saoirse Ronan, who’s currently in negotiations to star.

A martial arts action film, Order reimagines the classic fairytale completely and would have Ronan playing British expat Olivia Sinclair, who’s living in 19th century Hong Kong.

There, she seeks the protection of a band of warriors. When an evil empress re-emerges, Sinclair helps the warriors to “reclaim their destiny and noble roots”, according to Variety .

The seven warriors are still being cast, though Disney are looking to flesh them out with an international cast of Russian, Chinese and Japanese actors.

Order Of The Seven should go in front of cameras this Autumn with former visual effects supervisor Michael Gracey at the helm.

Though we’ll probably be all Snowed out after this year’s Mirror, Mirror and Snow White And The Huntsman , there’s no denying this sounds like a fascinating spin on the classic fairytale.

Besides, if Mirror and Huntsman both turn out to be duds, Snow White fans have further hope in this gritty offering.
