He beats out Harry Potter director David Yates to bring a new version of the John Wyndham classic to the screen
Mandate Pictures in partnership with Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, has won the rights to produce a new big-screen version of the John Wyndham killer plant novel The Day Of The Triffids , and Raimi intends to direct it, according to Deadline . The rights were the subject of a bidding war which also included Harry Potter director David Yates among the interested parties.
Mandate and Raimi will now team up Preger Entertainment, Angry Films and the Mark Gordon company who all came as part of the rights package. Preger Entertainment’s Michael Preger has spent years’ aquiring the rights and was also behind the BBC version shown last Christmas. Angry Film’s Don Murphy, who will act as one of the producers, recently revealed that that film is intended to be shot in 3D. Of course.
