Saints Row: The Third announced

Saints Row has always played second fiddle to Grand Theft Auto in the world of crime games. But with Saints Row’s over-the-top naughtiness, which included pumping pedestrians with pooh in the last game, you can’t really call it a clone. Expect the series to continue pursuing its own brand of potty humor and action in Saints Row: The Third, which was just announced for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

The slick art you see here comes from Game Informer, which will feature Saints Row: The Third on the cover of the magazine’s April issue. So what’s the story with Saints Row: The Third? Here’s what publisher THQ has to say:

Years after taking Stilwater for their own, the Third Street Saints have evolved from street gang to household brand name, with Saints sneakers, Saints energy drinks and Johnny Gat bobble head dolls all available at a store near you. The Saints are kings of Stilwater, but their celebrity status has not gone unnoticed. The Syndicate, a legendary criminal fraternity with pawns in play all over the globe, has turned its eye on the Saints and demands tribute. Refusing to kneel to the Syndicate, you take the fight to a new city, playing out the most outlandish gameplay scenarios ever seen. Strap it on.

Expect more news on Saints Row: The Third as development continues. In the meantime, feast your eyes on more delicious art prepared for the game’s debut in Game Informer.

@Letter11 It isn't GTA, but you could turn lock-on off in RDR. I played the whole game that way. It's quite a bit more challenging, but quite a bit more fun.

I am so stoked for this game. Saints Row 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, so I can't wait to see what's in store for the next game.

Saints row 2 wasnt a great game by any means but it had charm by the bucket load- the laughably over the top plot, the customisation options and the freedom to do all kinds of crazy stuff really kept me playing way longer than i should have. Saint row 3 could be something special if the developers could: 1. Keep the plot , characters and missions ridiculously over the top 2. Make the level of customisation as high as the last game (if not higher) 3. Improve the shooting and combat. 4. Give the graphics a much needed pollish. 5. Put more detail in the look and the design of the sandbox enviroment and offer more activities to do within it. If those factors are addressed for the sequel, then who knows, it could fulfill its ambition to be a GTA beater.....

Saints Row 2 was my unapologetic GotY for 2008. There aren't many games that I still play that are over 2 years old. Especially ones I bought new day day of release. It's beautiful, stupid and amazing, with a storyline that actually has some decent hooks in it.

I love the level of custom stuff you could do to EVERYTING hope you have the same level of custom s**t

There is over the top, and there is completely stupid. saints row is both in an endearing and charming way. if they can fix my gripes about 2 (floaty cars, whimsical controls, ect ect) 3 will probably be the game i waste the most time on.

i hope to god u can import ur character from SR2. I didnt care wen SR2 came out to import my SR1 guy because he was bland as hell; but my SR2 guy was an exact duplicate of Christian Bale from American Psycho! I was so proud of the detail i made: the hair, skinny nose, angry eyes, the face is spot-on. Ill be pissed if i cant import into SR3, cause it was him who made the Saints what they are. Wud be arbitrary if u have to make up another new anonymous guy

Damn excited about this one the series is so entertaining and keeps me playing it the multiplayer with buds is plain hilarious, it's the game that has brought me the most fun online and by far, I just hope they improve the matchmaking, and bring back that Protect Da Pimp mode which was even more funny

Always liked the aiming system in Saints Row better. I wish Rockstar would move away from lock-on. It just makes me feel like I'm not doing anything.
  • Outlander - March 3, 2011 5:07 a.m.

I love Saint's Row because it takes the sillyness of GTA and kicks it into hyper drive. It doesn't take it self seriously and by no means wants you to. It's all about having fun and being ridiculous. A nice breeze of poo smelling air in this super serious gaming market we have today.

I love the Franchise. I gotta finish the second one though. when does this come out?
