Rumour: Dwayne Johnson to star in Terminator 5?

With Arnold Schwarzenegger having recently confirmed his involvement in Terminator 5 , the rumour mill has been busy generating potential co-stars for him to square off against, with Dwayne Johnson the latest name to be mentioned.

According to WWE Examiner , one version of the script is being specifically developed for Johnson, which would raise the enticing proposal of this generation's premiere action-man going toe to toe with his predecessor.

Meanwhile, the site goes on to make an even more outlandish claim that the new film could be a prequel, possibly set in the 1940s or '50s...

"One theory is that Schwarzenegger’s remarkable ability to protect the Connor family in the 1940s or 1950s, with antiquated weaponry by today’s standards, ultimately inspired the machines to develop a terminator in his likeness," claims the breathless report.

We'll take that theory heavily salted, but Johnson's involvement certainly seems plausible, and we could well believe that Skydance is considering him for a key role. The 1940s setting? Not so much...
