Rock Band DLC Breakdown

Arranged alphabetically by ranking

Bad Omen | Megadeth | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
Just when you think it’s going to be like the other Megadeth tracks, it kicks you in the teeth with challenging strum work and hand-bending chord progressions. Highly recommended for anyone who thinks Rock Band’s guitar sets are too easy. ****

Rio | Duran Duran | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
Whoa. Crank it to Expert and see if you can take it. Hard and rewarding. A must for bass players. ****

Wake Up Dead | Megadeth | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
Difficult phrases that repeat a lot, then just when you get to a part you think you know it throws a curve ball and changes slightly. Exceptionally fun. ****

All Right Now | Free | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
A lot of down time in this one - just stand there and look good. What is there is simple and repetitive with only one or two phrases where you get to cut loose, but those alone might be worth the investment. ***

Chiron | All That Remains | 80MSP, $0.99 PSN until 10/9/08; 160MSP, $1.99 after 10/9/08
Fast, frenzied, and best of all, varied. Even if ATR ain’t your thing, this song remains fun and even challenging, with lots of hammer-ons to master during replays. ***

The Conjuring | Megadeth | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
There’s a lot of straight notes with bits of neck work that’s not too hand breaking. If you like to shred you’re going to be jealous of the guitar. Still one of the better bass bits we’ve seen lately. ***

Cream and Bastards Rise | Harvey Danger | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
Mostly straight eights with a few intermittent hammer ons and pull offs. There's no great challenge to it, but it makes a good warm up. ***

Devil’s Island | Megadeth | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
Once you get the patterns down it's good fun, but the refrain is just different enough to keep you on your toes. ***

Girl U Want | Devo | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
Mainly follows the guitar's lead. A fun mix of challenging off-beat notes and plain ol' fun licks. Good stuff for bassists. ***

Girls on Film | Duran Duran | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
Strong bass line, perfect for players looking to get better. Duran knows their bass. ***

Good Mourning/Black Friday | Megadeth | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
Once again you’re going to be salivating over that guitar part. This is a lot of double strumming straight notes and sections of single note runs. ***

Love Spreads | The Stone Roses | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
Really busy, fast fingerwork, but fun overall. ***

My Last Words | Megadeth | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
Simple enough. The hardest thing is getting the timing down. There are many simple three or four note combos with one note on a jarring beat. ***

Push It | Static X | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
All Green and Yellow notes in the same looped pattern all the way through. Surprisingly, it's not as boring as it sounds. Kinda crunchy. ***

Self Esteem | The Offspring | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
It's a looping pattern with a decent amount strumming eighth notes working their way up and down the neck, nothing too complex though. ***

Shhh | Darkest of Hillside Thickets | 80MSP, $0.99 PSN
Nothing too complex, though it does spew out a couple of tricky spots that make the overall song worth checking out. ***

Tom Sawyer (Original) | Rush | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
Quite hard, a lot of neck/fret work and smart note progression. Excellent but again, it’s in the first game already. ***

Vital Signs | Rush | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
Almost perfect blend of simple strumming and complex lines. Good wake-up song if you’re planning a long session. ***

YYZ | Rush | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
Hard and fast, especially on Expert, but once you get the pattern down you’re in for a treat. ***

All Over Again | Locksley | 80MSP, $0.99 PSN
Another case of the drums leading the song. Fun as a group, so get it if you’re partying, but bass alone isn’t worth it. **

Bad to the Bone | George Thorogood & the Destroyers | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
It's the same rhythm loop all the way through. Sounds lame but this blues-y bit isn't as boring as it sounds, for some reason. **

The Camera Eye | Rush | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
Vast sections are completely bass-less. What’s there is great, but too much empty space. **

Charlene (I’m Right Behind You) | Stephen and the Colberts | Free
Booooring. Ever wanted to feel like you were playing a set devoid of energy at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance? The poor bassist gets a scant handful of notes during this less-than-a-minute “song.” That extra star is because it’s free, and we don’t want to be on the receiving end of Papa Bert’s wagging finger. **

Don’t Make Me Wait | Locksley | 80MSP, $0.99 PSN
S’alright, easy to zone out and not even realize you’ve been playing though. As with drums, it’s very middle of the road. **

Gone Away | The Offspring | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
Don't even hesitate about playing this one on Expert – do it. It's the same pattern looped, there's some quarters and some sustains – purely  rhythm and progression. **

I Ain’t Superstitious | Megadeth | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
Nice slow paced bluesy chord progression with a lot of sustains. The chunks of triplets and quarter notes are somewhat enticing. This one’s no fun by yourself; get the full band together for maximum enjoyment. **

Limelight (Original) | Rush | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
Simple pattern with a lot of neck work.Good, not great. **

Nearly Lost You | Screaming Trees | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
Meh… What is there to say? The bass line is there and it keeps time. It's some quarters and staggering notes here and there – a must play on Expert. **

One of THOSE Nights | The Cab | 80MSP, $0.99 PSN
Mostly all eights and quarters with spurts of speed strumming. Not so hot on Hard but Expert’s all right when playing as part of a whole band. **

Pretty Fly (For a White Guy) | The Offspring | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
Once again another bass riff put there for structure. There are a couple sort-of-fun spots that just leave you craving something more. Other than that it's the same progression most of the way through – go for Expert. **

Red Barchetta | Rush | 160MPS, $1.99 PSN
Repetitive, but the licks keep you on your toes. Solid, if comparatively boring. **

She Does | Locksley | 80MSP, $0.99 PSN
Very casual strumming, nothing special. Fine as a group but don’t buy if you’re playing alone. **

She Sells Sanctuary | The Cult | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
This is a cakewalk; it's all straight eights and hardly ever goes all the way down to the orange button. Easy enough to let your head hang and jam like a real bassist. **

Skullcrusher Mountain | Jonathan Coulton | 80MSP, $0.99 PSN
Slow and uninteresting; bassists will be eyeing the guitar set with eager, jealous eyes. **

Stop! | Against Me! | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
This is only slightly fun, with almost just enough neck work to make it worth your time in the slightest. Better with the whole band, and while you're at it crank it to Expert for a more rocking good time. **

This Calling | All That Remains | 80MSP, $0.99 PSN until 10/9/08; 160MSP, $1.99 after 10/9/08
The monotony of the lubby-dubby bass notes are only occasionally broken up with some light fret work. Challenging for maybe ten seconds. **

You’re No Rock N Roll Fun | Sleater-Kinney | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
You'll mostly be playing eighth notes, alternating between the green and yellow. A good time with the whole band - go ahead and crank it to Expert for a bit more depth and challenge. **

Get Your Rock On | The Janitors | 80MSP, $0.99 PSN
Not very interesting. Seasoned players will be bored, period. *

Hands Down | Dashboard Confessional | 80MSP, $0.99 PSN
Super easy and uneventful. Hardly anything going on at all, no neckwork, nothing. *

Livin’ on the Corner of Dude and Catastrophe | MC Frontalot | 80MSP, $0.99 PSN
Boring. No other way to put it. Even cranked to Expert there’s not much going on, just a lot of one or two note sections with minor sustains. *

Natural Disaster | Plain White T’s | 80MSP, $0.99 PSN
You could probably take a nap and still five star this song. Bass is there purely for rhythm and progression. Pass. *

She’s a Handsome Woman | Panic at the Disco | 80MSP, $0.99 PSN
Almost all sustains here, making this one a breeze to play. Breeze as in, “way too easy to bother.” Just pick another song. *

Shoot the Runner | Kasabian | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
This is one of those songs that makes you yearn for tracks with bass lines that compliment the song, and not just there for the sake of being there. Playing constant quarts with the occasional hammer on and off is super boring and frustratingly slow. *

Through Being Cool | Devo | 160MPS, $1.99 PSN
Sparse even on Hard. If you're any good, go straight to Expert and possibly eke some fun out. Otherwise it's a solid "meh." *

Two Weeks | All That Remains | 80MSP, $0.99 PSN until 10/9/08; 160MSP, $1.99 after 10/9/08
Numerous silent drags and repetitive strumming are only redeemed by brief walking notes. I was bored. *

Witch Hunt (Part III of Fear) | Rush | 160MSP, $1.99 PSN
Slow, kind of uninteresting, like the rest of the song. Only if you're a completist. *

I called Jonathan Coulton's Skullcrusher Mountain "Semi-Catchy" up there and I'd kinda like to retract that to plain ol' catchy. That song literally woke me from my sleep and wouldn't let me go back to bed.

N ot that it's not cool, but i've always been a guitar hero fan. So I will have to wait for Guitar Hero: World Tour. Unfortunately

Turns out the Rush DLC was delayed - uh oh! Once they turn out replacement DLC we'll get it up here. @Walkman360 - soon there'll be RB2 for Wii, so that's something at least, right?

  • Corsair89 - September 25, 2008 3:04 a.m.

I love Rush. Red Barchetta is by far my favorite Rush song. YYZ in GHII got me into Rush in the first place. Limelight and Tom Sawyer are now on RB and RB2 twice. Camara Eye is a great song. Now, other Rush songs they need to put on are Spirit of Radio and La Villa Strangiato. 2112 would be great(if you like songs that are twenty minutes long, and insanily complex, and the singing doesn't start until your four minutes into it.) I'd make people suffer through it at parties and laugh at them.

U guys kinda sucked on the first song. :(

This is so cool you can comment! I love Rush, definately buying this DLC. Really like "Limelight" by them.
  • NintendoNerd655 - August 28, 2008 8:19 p.m.

I find the 500+ total songs you can compilate in one Rock Band 2 disk fantastic. Great for parties, and no more complaining for variety. Keep it up, RB2! -Phazon
