Robert Englund "not Freddy" in new Nightmare

While it’s been slowly chugging through development for a while, the official green light has been flashed over the new version of A Nightmare On Elm Street.

Talking to Shock ‘Till You Drop, Platinum Dunes producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form have explained that the movie is locked in.

“It’s our next movie," confirmed Form, “hopefully shooting this spring."

“A horrifying movie”

The producers have also verified that while they plan to re-imagine the original film, they won’t be changing it radically.

"It's not Freddy cracking jokes. We want to make a horrifying movie. The concept is so scary, don't fall asleep or you'll die. This guy gets you when you're most vulnerable, in your sleep. We love that. That's the basis of the movie. It'll be most similar to the first one but in terms of kills and dreams we'll borrow from the entire series."

And what of Freddy himself, played in the past by horror icon Robert Englund? Sounds like it’s Friday The 13th again and they’ll hire someone new to fill the knife glove and jersey,

But they hope he’ll be involved in some way. Which is, er, nice?
