Ridley Scott will not be directing Blade Runner 2

Ridley Scott has given an update on Blade Runner 2, and while he won’t be returning to direct, he has revealed that the film will begin shooting next year.

Speaking to Variety, Scott revealed that he will still be involved as a producer, and also confirmed that Harrison Ford will be returning, but only in the film’s third act.

“[Screenwriter Hampton Fancher and I] talked at length about what it could be,” says Scott, “and came up with a pretty strong three-act storyline, and it all makes sense in terms of how it relates to the first one.”

“Harrison is very much part of this one, but really it’s about finding him,” explains Scott. “He comes in in the third act.”

According to Scott, production will begin next year, although exact dates will presumably depend on how quickly they are able to find a suitable director. Watch this space…
