Ridley Scott going Gucci?

Don’t worry. The headline doesn’t mean that Sir Rid will be strolling the catwalk wearing what the pundits predict will hit the high street months from the moment it arrives.

Nope, the man who brought us Gladiator is circling a biopic based on the famous Gucci family. And what a story they have – the Gucci clan makes Footballers' Wives look like Last Of The Summer Wine.

The most famous incidents include Paolo Gucci almost sending his father, Aldo, to prison for some dodgy tax filing; Maurizio Gucci getting gunned down in 1995 and grieving widow Patrizia sent to the slammer three years later for paying to have him assassinated. And that’s just a sample from the decades-long soap opera that is the fashion family.

Now Paramount has the project, and has hired writer Andrea Berloff (who penned Oliver Stone’s upcoming World Trade Center) to tackle the script.

Scott, who is currently shooting American Gangster with Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington, will help to develop the script and then decide if he’ll make it his next film.
