Kill yourself five times and then at your status screen press a. when the game goes back to the main menu turn it off. when you turn it back on you'll be at the next level.

Hidden Characters
On the select character screen at the start of the game, change the name of "Kelly" to "Sumner". All the hidden characters will now be available
