Broken homes make for the best kind of emo. Whether it’s a lost spouse, a dead child – or both – the severed ties of family make even the most chipper JRPG character consider cutting their wrists. Tack onto that a total loss of identity and it’s shocking that either of these two characters lived to the end of their plotlines.
Regal
Above: “It is enough that I alone bear the weight of sin.”
Sarah
Above: “I couldn’t save her!”
The Winner – Regal because Sarah gets her husband back plus two grandkids.
Games: Final Fantasy IX & Persona 3
Evil versus good goes out the window when we consider which of these ego-centric characters is more wastefully whiny. On the one hand, we’ve got an evil villain with a crushed ego. On the other – a high school student. Which is kind of the same thing, when you think about it.

Main Character
Above: We’re talking about a teenager who routinely shoots himself in the head. Do you really need a YouTube video to prove that he’s a little bit emo?
The Winner – The Main Character because when it comes to emo, nobody does it better than a teenage boy. Except maybe a teenage girl.
