Resistance 3 shots beam down to Earth, hints at New York setting

INCOMING! New shots from Insomniac's PS3 exclusive, Resistance 3 have escaped Sony HQ and are invading your interwebs. The leaked seventeen strong mix of concept art and potential gameplay screens show a familiar yet grittier Chimera threat than ever before.

Above: The Chimera look less cartoon-like than ever before. Nasty.

So what have we noticed from the shots? Well the whole look of the game appears to be far more grimy than before. We're still hopeful of a rainbow and blue sky or two, because who want's to kill aliens for hours on end in the rain? Not us. Also, it may just be part of the concept for Resistance 3 but will we see children screaming through the streets as we go gun to gun with the Chimera? Maybe even wielding a pistol...

Above: Look closely in the bottom left hand corner. Near the man with the shotty. A kid with a revolver?

The images seem to confirm that the lead character will indeed be Joseph Capelli (seeing as the original file names contained the 'Capelli_Grim' and the like) - the former team-mate of Nathan Hale who is seen *SPOILER ALERT* blasting his old buddy in the head just as he's about to fully transform into a mega-Chimera *SPOILER ENDS*. Internet rumour also suggests that Hale's sister, Susan Farley, is the lady seen in the shots too. Oh, and Capelli is a native of New York, which would maybe mean the final showdown will be there. Need proof? BOOM!

Above: The Statue of Liberty looks to have taken a whoopin'. And what's that light coming from Manhattan?

We've actually seen the game running but we're sworn to secrecy. What we can say is that Resistance 3 looks to be far more claustrophobic than what we've seen, with twisting streets hiding Chimera around every turn. New weapons look ace and there are a few new tricks up the alien-invaders scaly sleeves to really keep you on your toes. And that's about all we can say. Sorry. We'll have loads more news as soon as the embargo lifts, but for now check out the rest of the screenshots to get yourself in the mood for some alien-slaying.

Damn, the Chimera look downright ferocious this time around. I like it! Although I'm not too convinced that the guy in a bunch of those screens is Capelli... Ah well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Also, I spy with my little eye... a Goliath Spiffy. And what about that arch in the last image in the gallery? Isn't that in St. Louis, Missouri?

Between games and movies I've seen way too much of New York.

These look cool. Resistance is up there in my favorite franchises and this looks cool. Last guy in the photos list looks hard or atleast annoying

I'm still nervous for how this will turn out. I loved FoM but Resistance 2 really sucked. Must. Remain. Optimistic.

Since Insomniac is one of those company types that listen to fans A LOT, I expect this to be the best of both games. The first game had a better narrative and a better atmosphere (in my opinion) but R2 had better online, specifically co-op. DO WANT. Now.

I cannot wait for this game, I am seriously excited beyond belief to finally see news of Resistance 3. Only I was kinda hoping, and this is an extremely small bit of hope, that Nathan Hale had survived. I just dont think the game is going to be the same without him. Wasnt he one of the whole points to the game in the first place. But whatever all im saying is im still upset about the direction Resistance 2 took, but I still think Nathan Hale deserves the main character spot, no matter what happened at the end.

I'm really liking these pictures. One of the best things about the original (which they weren't exactly able to capture in Resistance 2, despite it still being an awesome game) was that the environments were realistic, but had an eerie, otherworldly quality that you couldn't quite place. I'm also quite surprised that gameplay has been shown. Hopefully the embargo lifts soon. I would love to see how it looks in motion.

Looks like their going back to what the original was like after the fan backlash over 2. If that is the case then i'm very excited about this game. Hopefully they don't cock up the competitive online again and make the coop more interesting.
