Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City GR GamePlay demo

Shares

Survival horror’s spooky mansions, creaking hallways, and shambling footsteps take a back seat for all out grenade tossing, machine gun blasting action in Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. As a member of the Umbrella Security Service, a highly trained and well-equipped cleanup crew for Umbrella’s experiments, the over-the-shoulder action title takes players through the events surrounding Resident Evil 2 and 3. We got the chance to try out the first level. Check it out.

What do you think of the faster pace and lack of scares? Let us know in the comments below and get ready for when Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City hits stores on March 20.

Not too bad but I would like to see more hordes of zombies instead of just fighting against generic spec ops soldiers. I saw the co-op a while back with the Heroes mode and it looked good but I think the campaign will be a bit too much of a linear corridor shooter for me...

Why is the comment section full of one person? Think about it. Resident Evil is a franchise. Capcom has lost Shinji Mikami, Hideki Kamiya, and Keiji Inafune. Devil May Cry was given to an American developer for the next game, development of Mega Man games is basically dead, Lost Planet has hardly been a hit, but Resident Evil 5 was one of Capcom's most successful games in years. Guessing from Revelations and the reveal of 6, Resident Evil might be the franchise they're betting on. They aren't going to limit themselves to catering to people who just want Resi 2 over and over again, they're going to look for more audiences. They've already made Revelations to try to bring back the horror element, we aren't sure what 6 is, and obviously Raccoon City is action-oriented. These games were NEVER intended to be "classic" Resident Evil again and again. It's obviously Capcom's attempt to reach a wider audience, and bring them into the franchise. They are not going to bow to the whims of fans and just make slow, unchanging Resident Evil games again and again. So stop bitching, and realize that Resident Evil is a franchise that Capcom is going to whatever they want with, not just a series of numbered installments that must conform to the Resident Evil 1-3 (maybe 1-4) fanbase.

I still remember that someone high up at Capcom said that for Resident Evil 6 to be successful it would have to be like Resi 4 was to Resi's 1-3 - it would have to completely break the mold of the franchise. That said, it doesn't look like they're doing that, so... I dunno. I don't want another old-style Resi and I don't want another 4 or 5-style Resi. I want a game that creates a new damn genre the way Resi 4 did. Also, don't forget that Capcom has it's plethora of fighting games to fall back on. Street Fighter, SFxT, and Everything vs. Capcom.

Muh. I don't like the Resident Evil mechanics, such as Herbs and ammo pickups, mixing with the Third-person action/shooting tropes. They don't mix entirely seamlessly, and it shows a bit too painfully at times. That said, I really, really, REALLY hate the human AI. They don't give a fuck if bullets are penetrating their armour and subsequently their flesh, and that takes me right out of the game damn quick. I'm also not a huge fan of the detached camera effect, much like Lost Planet and Crackdown. If I'm playing a third person shooter, let alone a Resident Evil game, spin-off or no, I want the camera hugging my right shoulder. It just makes the game look that much better, as well as giving a meatier, more satisfying experience.

Gears of Evil? Would have preferred seeing some gameplay of the team on the streets of Raccoon City dealing with zombies rather than that boring G-Birken section. I'm still on the fence about this game, so I'll skip the preorder and wait till the reviews surface.

I miss FAPs. Tyler is fine, but these new guys are so dull and lifeless. Game looks interesting, though. "Rental" interesting, not "day-one purchase" interesting, mind you.

Jesus christ, you guys are drier than sandpaper. Tyler, it's up to you, buddy!
