Red Faction: Armageddon goes subterranean. Adds aliens

The next Red Faction game is going to be Red Faction: Armageddon. And based on the first trailer, it looks quite a bit different to the previous Red Faction game. I'm sure you'll recall that the main objective in Red Faction: Guerrilla was to smash up anything or anyone that was the property of the slave-driving Earth Defence Force. But Red Faction: Armageddon has a whole new enemy. Watch the trailer:

Looks a lot more spooky - a bit Dead Space-y even - and suggests a much greater emphasis on shooty-shooty action. It'll be putting in an appearance at next week's E3, so I'm sure we'll find out just how much of a departure from the previous game Red Faction: Armageddon is going to be.

this seems like a major departure from Red Faction: Guerrilla, though the alien weapons mixed with Geomod technology should be FRIGGIN' awesome

Im suprised it kept the ability to destroy anything. I thought that the destruction of Guerrilla would be a novelty to that game, but it seems they added it in Armageddon. Sweet!

as i said on cvg, i loved 1+2, liked guerilla, but this looks like Infamous: Dead Space!

yeah it started as an FPS, a good one too. this looks promising

Keep in mind that the series started as a first person shooter, so I'm not surprised to see it going back to shooter roots. That being said, it IS surprising to see them adding what almost looks like a survival horror element. Volition is known for crude humor with their games lately, so, so I don't expect them to take the horror elements too seriously, out of risk of compromising the whole "feel" of Red Faction.

Great! You know a website is expanding when you get spambots! I think this underground setting is a huge cock-up, as it would limit the destruction capabilities.

The "we are no longer the only life on mars" makes me think of DOOM more then dead space, but the enemies could be necromorphs all the way.

Hmmm I don't like the look of this at all, I didn't think Red Faction's focus was ever aliens. ReCaptcha: groan bernard
