RealPlay Pool review

Mediocre

Jan 8, 2008

It’s a strange time to be a PS2 owner, surviving as they are on a gaming diet composed chiefly of Wii ports denuded of their motion-sensitive gimmicks. But last year, In2Games appeared on the horizon and told PS2 owners not to fear - promising to bring Wii-beating motion control to the venerable console.

Of course, if you want to beat Nintendo at their own game, the one thing you don’t do is create four (soon to be six) inferior peripherals and games and sell them separately at a none-too-competitive price. And so that’s exactly what In2games have done.

Then there are the problems with the game’s included pool cue…

For a game bundled with a motion-sensing peripheral, it’s amazing how few actions in the game actually make use of it. All the peripheral can do is change the elevation of your shot and then make it - finding your angle and changing the spin on the cue ball is a matter for the D-pad. There’s no meter to let you know how much power you’re putting into your shot either. Accuracy? You won’t find it here, friend. Value? You’re best off just taking a couple of coins down to your local pool-hall.
