What you’ve probably noticed by now is how huge and packed the levels are, and how big the characters look. The larger scale ties in to the focus on exploration, and the in-your-face cartoon style is both bold and beautiful. Even the skies will be jammed with flying vehicles and meteors raining down. As in previous games, you’ll get to pilot some of these spacecraft and blast away at enemies and falling space rocks.
The set pieces on the ground look pretty smart, too. Some of the bosses almost fill the screen and have no problem smashing through parts of the environment. In one cool scene Ratchet slides along a rail inside a building while being shot at by an enemy on the outside. He’s not the only one with all the moves, though: Clank will also come with some new, as yet unknown abilities too - which is a relief after his disappointingly limited role in Ratchet: Deadlocked.
Tools of Destruction doesn’t appear to stray too far from what everyone loves about the series (hilarious dialogue, cool weapons, imaginative levels), only it’s all presented on a far greater and much prettier scale. If this is the future, we can’t wait for it to arrive.
