Rain brings the pain in new Mortal Kombat trailer

Hot on the heels of the Kenshi and Skarlet DLC releases, NetherRealm is now unleashing Rain, a purple-clad ninja who uses lightning, water and teleportation to confuse opponents. As you'll see in the trailer, his moves are highly unorthadox; the water ball lets you trap and then physically move the other fighter, and his high kick actually sends opponents flying off one side of the screen and back in through the other in a very "around the world" kind of way. Longtime fans probably remember him from Ultimate MK3 or MK Trilogy. As of July 19, he's officially part of the new Kombat krew.

I've always liked Rain - the purple outfit is a nice, rarely used color for male fighting game characters (or male characters in general) and again, his moves are so weird and confounding that they make every match a constant guessing game. Also, this character has forever infiltrated my mind when it comes to songs about precipitation. Seriously, every one of these is 100% better if you think about Rain the entire time.

Not going for the obvious song that the character's color+name was based on, brelston?

The character looks fun, but his design is as lazy as ever. Also, his fatalities look like they kind of suck.

I prefer his supagay outfit from Armageddon, tbh. How come female Edenians fight in their undies but the males don't? DISCRIMINATION! MISOGYNY! HOMOPHOBIA!

You mentioned three songs that ARENT the one song this character was based on: Purple Rain by Prince. But yeah, we seriously didnt need another ninja DLC, and Rain is pretty much the worst/most irrelevant ninja of them all. This really isn't looking good, the game was good as it was especially because all those useless shit characters werent in it, but now theyre just bringing character after character back like this.

That's what's up! Purple Rain has always been one of my favorite MK3 characters (when basically my choice for favorite was who had the coolest color ninja outfit)

Also, when will there be a DLC pack that's just all 4 characters! That's the one I'll buy.

@TheWebSwinger, there's a "season pass" that gives you all 4 characters as they are released for "the price of three". I don't know if there is one on PSN. I hope they bring all the DLC characters and costumes to Mortal Kombat Vita. $40 for the game and all the DLC shit.

I gotta agree with a number of things here - First, I agree with Brett in that purple is a woefully underused color for male characters. It's such an elegant color that, when used right, can make a character look that much more noble (fun fact: in the middle ages, purple was often a color that signified nobility). Also, I second Oujisama in that Rain always felt like that one unneeded ninja in a franchise that's just full of ninja characters. Maybe it's because there's already so many male ninjas in this franchise already (Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Reptile, Ermac, Smoke, and Noob), but it might also have to do with Rain not having a lot of backstory to him. Sure, he's a demi-god and betrayed his pals in favor of Shao Kahn, but there's not much else to him storywise. I will concede that he looks like an interesting fighter, though... and I winced a little at the part where he snaps his opponent's arm. How come none of the other kombatants go for the arms (outside of fatalities)?

I bet once Rain comes out Bret and the gang will party like it's 1999.(That song is a classic) Real men can pull off Purple it's like a less used Blue and a more vibrant black, I'd love to see more of it. @Oujisama Rain isn't a Ninja, he's actually Edenian royalty and wears the garb of an Edenian prince...which happens to look like a ninja outfit.

I apologize in advance to all his fans but.... **** Rain. Yea thats right, I said **** Rain. Just don't like the guy.

Sorry Brett but after your review of the MK9 you are not allowed to speak more of the game. This is due to the fact that fan boys agree you are terrible!!! All kidding aside the videos always end up look like crap and it is not until you get into the game that you see how good it is. Wish they had some of those day one 55% combo people making their preview videos.

Whoa, this guy seems pretty cool. Kinda makes me wish I'd bought Mortal Kombat instead of renting it. Is it just me, or does putting both of his Fatalities AND his X-ray move in the video kind of ruin some of the fun of discovering them?
