Radar Reacts: First Saints Row IV details!

Strap it on... in space!

We've known that Saints Row IV was in the works, but we didn't know anything about it. Would it be a current-gen game? Would it come out this year? Would it feature the President of the United States fighting aliens? Turns out, the answer to all of those things was yes. Here's our first reaction.

When news breaks, you can count on GamesRadar to bring it to you right away. But there's more than the news--with Radar Reacts we go over what it means, what we think, and what we think it means. Check it out, and let us know in the comments what you think about the biggest news stories, and we'll be here to answer your questions.

Honestly, would like to see the game take a new direction: somebody from another gang rising up to challenge the Saints. Could be a past gang, could be your own custom gang, whatever. The over the top stuff wasn't bad at first, but the series not only jumped the shark at this point, it pulled out a rocket launcher on the way over and blew the shark up. That said, I found the game to be a ton of fun if you were just running around and blowing things up and beating pedestrians to be a ton of fun.

Hmm. Loved Saint's Row The Third, but this is honestly too soon. It's a huge open-world game, those take time, and the city itself was kinda dull in 3. Furthermore the last game I can think of that was DLC/an expansion which became a full sequel rushed to market because of publisher pressure on the developer was Dragon Age II. And that destroyed Bioware's reputation forever, and almost killed the franchise. and was s***.

Saints Row the Third was fun, but I played the heck out of it (all achievements unlocked)... and I kind of got to a point where I realized the game was mostly just fun in two situations: you're doing one of the set pieces or you're causing insane trouble with a friend. Everything about it was built to be over the top, and it got a bit old... especially because Steelport, despite having an entire island full of zombies, just isn't a fun city. Most sandbox games, there's a lot of memorable landmarks, in Saints Row 2 there's your safehouses, the statue, and the airport. That's about it.

A much as I love the Saints Row series, This honestly sound like a Crackdown 2 thing

looks like some kind of Saints Row Crackdown mashup, yeah.. Love it.

Except that formula, and this type of game gets old pretty quickly. Once you get a set of semi super human powers that allow you to travel a city in seconds in one game, you've pretty much seen them all (Protoype series, Crackdown series, inFamous series). Not to mention this is an obvious cash crab by turning an expansion for SR3 into.....this.

I can only imagine the angry parents again saying video games like this are corrupting young minds. People need to shut up already!!!!

The funny part is that they haven't... SR seems to have mostly flown under the radar. Probably because nobody could take it seirously.
  • Doomzer - March 17, 2013 4:38 p.m.

It's not supposed to be taken seriously, the whole series is just a parody of other games like GTA, culture and subculture, movies, etc
  • angelusdlion - March 17, 2013 4:45 p.m.

And yet, ironically, it's about 1000 times more vulgar than the stuff they're protesting. Like PETA protesting Mario and not Red dead redemption, you know where you really could hunt and kill and skin animals, they just miss the point.
  • Doomzer - March 17, 2013 4:47 p.m.

    I said PARODY, not PROTEST.
  • angelusdlion - March 18, 2013 4:02 p.m.

And I was talking about protests that aren't even targeting the most vulgar games... are we even on the same page?
  • Doomzer - March 23, 2013 12:46 p.m.

Sorry, I was really tired at the time and misunderstood what you wrote.. Now after rechecking it, I see what you meant to say, and yeah, Now we're on the same page, or at least closer
