The games of the last couple console generations might have been awesome for their time, but take a look at them now and it’s hard to see them as anything other than jaggy abortions in which cardboard rectangles masquerade as limbs. And as if that weren’t embarrassing enough, most of those games contain female characters who, in their day, were genuinely considered sexy. ...

Turns out despite the huge brand name and near universal critical acclaim, Tomb Raider Underworld just didn't sell as well as they had predicted, so it's time to tap that lucrative family market.

But Eidos don't need to spend thousands on a marketing consultant - we've done all the hard work for them and drawn up new versions of Lara. Indeed, one for every member of the family. ...

It could well turn out that Tomb Raider Underworld is the name Eidos will slap on Lara Croft's next adventure.

Reports indicate that the publisher has filed for trademark of the phrase 'Tomb Raider Underworld' with the Patent and Trademark Office.

'Underworld' has led to speculation that the new Tomb Raider game may find Croft mixing it up with seedy criminal elements, but it could of course just be a reference to the core of the sequel involving underground antics. Either way, ...
One of the best in-gags in gaming history is the "Lara Nude Cheat." For all the old Tomb Raider games, Core would leak a cheat that claimed to turn Lara naked. In reality, once you'd managed to pull off the complex moves, your only reward was to watch your heroine violently explode with a scream, her arms, legs and head flying off in different directions.

Gone are such innocent times, thanks to the mod scene. Now you can have Lara look any way you wish in TR: Anniversary (sorry ...
1) Wrecking the T-Rex
During the first few hours of play, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Tomb Raider's bestiary of enemies is nothing other than the stuff of National Geographic - bears, wolves, crocodiles and the like. Push on to The Lost World area though, and Anniversary gets Jurassic on your ass, dropping you into the path of an enraged, prehistoric Goliath with teeth like kitchen knives. And Lara takes it down with just her ...

Industry veteran Ian Livingstone thinks that game developers need more character. The Eidos product acquisition director, speaking at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival 2007, told the audience that characters were extremely important not just in games, but also as intellectual properties that can then be used in other products.
To be fair, the fact that Tomb Raider Anniversary on PSP causes pain isnt really any fault of its own. Thats down to the design of the PSP, in particular the positioning of its analog nubbin. General running, jumping and swinging doesnt present too many problems, but when things get really hectic, like when, say, youre trying not to get mauled by a pack of rabid bears or shredded by a T-Rex, the constant struggle to stay out of harms way while keeping your target in sight could reduce a grown ...

Tomb Raider creator Ian Livingstone revealed that Paramount Pictures are considering whether to make a follow-up to 2003's The Cradle Of Life which would have Angelina Jolie playing Lara Croft once again.

Livingstone who recently completed the latest game in the series, Tomb Raider: Anniversary, said that when Paramount see how successful the new game is it will show that the world is still interested in the franchise. That could be enough for the final go ahead to be given.

Considering the high percentage of bad game to movie conversions will gamers really be looking forward to seeing Lara Croft on the big screen once again?
Thursday 3 May 2007

It's a privilege normally only afforded to games journalists and writers - the opportunity to play games before anyone else. In fact, it's the biggest perk we get. Well, that, and the odd free pint.

And now, in conjunction with Eidos, we're giving one Tomb Raider fan and three of their mates the chance to visit Eidos (home of Tomb Raider) and play Lara Croft Tomb Raider Anniversary three days before the game is released.

The winner will also receive a promotional copy of ...
The pressure is mounting. Crystal Dynamic's Jason Botta is anxious. "I'm still nervous about messing it up," he says, voice trembling slightly. We feel his pain. After all, this is the man charged with overseeing a revamp of the most beloved action-adventure titles in videogame history: the 1996-era near-instant classic, Tomb Raider.

The task before him appears almost impossible - how on God's green earth to drag a creaking, clunky, strangely angular, ridiculously popular ...
So how much of the game is complete at the moment?

Ginn: Everything from Peru, Greece and Egypt is in place, and what I want to do now is shift the emphasis so that were working from the back - so that the end is perfect. We want the encounter with Natla to be awesome and true to people's memories, then - if we run out of time - at least we've got those things ...
The camera pans over a large room dominated by wooden machinery, powered by a gigantic waterfall. Accompanied by ethereal music, it's hard not to stare. Graphically, this is amazing - but it's also incredibly nostalgic. This is Peru from Lara Croft's first, infamous adventure, recreated for a new generation of gamers. Welcome to Tomb Raider: Anniversary.

We're impressed. Running on PS2, but with all the polish of Legend, is the original (and best) Tomb Raider game. Tomb Raider 1, the pride of ...
We've managed to get hold of a shot of Tomb Raider: Anniversary and, compared to the first one released, this is positively action packed.

Earlier this year publisher Eidos announced its plans to release a remake of the original Tomb Raider for PS2, PC and PSP, and accompanied it with one solitary shot of Lara walking away. Now we can see her diving down a waterfall which is the sort of action we should be expecting from ...

Eidos has announced that Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary is due for release in 2007. The game is inspired by the original Tomb Raider game, and will be released on PlayStation 2, PSP and PC.

"We've captured the essence of what made the original game so special and with today's technology, created a game that pushes the boundaries of the current gaming consoles. Tomb Raider :Anniversary is a special celebration of Lara's reign as videogaming's leading lady", said Ian Livingstone, Eidos.

Anniversary will make use of an enhanced version of the impressive Tom Raider: Legend engine, and will use today's technology to retell the original story. The lack of a next-gen version is a little disappointing, but the PlayStation 2 version of Legend was impressive in its own right, so Tomb Raider fans shouldn't be disappointed.
The rumor has finally come true, for today publisher Eidos has confirmed that the original Tomb Raider will be remade and renamed as Tomb Raider: Anniversary. And to celebrate this being 10 years since Lara's 1996 debut, the remake will appear on PS2, PC and PSP in, um... 2007.

Being billed as "a completely new gameplay experience," Anniversary will use an enhanced version of the engine beneath Tomb Raider: Legend and promises to do more than merely shove the original title through a ...
Thursday 8 June 2006
A trailer purporting to be of Tomb Raider Anniversary Edition has appeared on You Tube and seems to be a remake of the original PSone Tomb Raider designed for PSP.

Rumours that Eidos is working on a remake of the original Tomb Raider game have been circulating ever since the publisher revealed in a financial report earlier this year that it is producing a special edition of Tomb Raider for the 10th anniversary of the series, which started way back in the autumn of ...

Cheer up, Tomb Raider fans! It turns out the 10th anniversary remake of Lara's first adventure hasn't been cancelled after all - and it won't just be appearing on PSP, either.

Rumours that the game was cancelled emerged after a statement appeared on Core Design's website saying that it was cancelled.

But that's not the case at all, according to SCi-Eidos. They've issued a statement saying that Tomb Raider: 10th Anniversary Edition is very much in development - and will appear on PC and PS2 as well as Sony's handheld.
