Dec 3, 2007 It could well turn out that Tomb Raider Underworld is the name Eidos will slap on Lara Croft's next adventure. Reports indicate that the publisher has filed for trademark of the phrase 'Tomb Raider Underworld' with the Patent and Trademark Office. 'Underworld' has led to speculation that the new Tomb Raider game may find Croft mixing it up with seedy criminal elements, but it could of course just be a reference to the core of the sequel involving underground antics. The Eidos executive thinks that the games industry needs more iconic characters to compete with movies, TV, and comics: Industry veteran Ian Livingstone thinks that game developers need more character. The Eidos product acquisition director, speaking at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival 2007, told the audience that characters were extremely important not just in games, but also as intellectual properties that can then be used in other products.

The ESRB (the men in suits that give our games their ratings) has updated its website to include five entries for the recently released Tomb Raider: Anniversary on PS2 and PC (PSP version to follow soon). Update: We have just received a "no comment" from Eidos. When contacted we got the "statement" before we even had chance to say "Hello Eidos, it's GamesRadar." Busy day for Eidos PR.
