They dress for success. Their own costume, be it custom-built spacesuit or bottomless backpack, is directly related to their adventuresome profession. No matter the situation, these heroes are loaded with gadgets, training and expertise that'll see them through to the end.

But not all game characters are created equal. A great many appear to have no practical application other than "the boss says this guy stays in the game."

Joystiq hands-on: Tekken: Dark Resurrection

Tekken fronts up on PSP

• Tekken Dark Resurrection trailer (MOV, 22.1MB)

Wednesday 31 May 2006
Namco has released a new trailer of Tekken: Dark Resurrection, which sees PSP as the latest venue for the Iron Fist tournament.

Out this September, the handheld beat-'em-up will offer the same sophisticated scrapping as the console versions, but for one-on-one action the ad-hoc wireless connectivity will have to be used.

The new trailer features the two new fighters to the series, Lili and Dragunov. Which is all well

Sporty new Tekken screens

As fast and frenzied as Tekken is, the one-on-one fighting is always accompanied by some unrelated minigame. If you spent any time with Tekken 3 all those years ago, you'll instantly recognize the Bowling minigame - and it's making a return in the PSP-exclusive Dark Resurrection.

When you're done pounding the 35 combatants into the ground, you'll be able to indulge in the simple bowling minigame solo or with friends, using two meters to gauge how hard you're throwing and how much spin is on

Tekken boss talks PSP

Friday 12 May 2006
The original Tekken 5 arcade game had such high specs that it was quite a challenge getting it on to PSP but it's not just a mere port: for PSP we completely remade all the materials in the game.

There will be 34 playable characters, each of which will have their own story with CG ending movies, including the two new characters Lili and Dragunov. We'll have all the modes of previous PS2 instalments of Tekken as well as some new ones.

One of these is a ghost feature that

Pre-E3 06: Tekken: Dark Resurrection

If you like to fight with your mind and body as one, you probably either kick some ass in real life, or play a whole lot of tech-heavy Virtua Fighter. When you just want to smash somebody's face into the ground (and look cool while doing it), there's hardly a better gallery of eclectic fighters than those in

Tekken slamming to PSP

Namco is planning the release of Tekken for PSP, according to respected Japanese gaming mag, Famitsu.

If the news is accurate, it confirms earlier rumours that a handheld version of the long-running beat-'em-up was in development for Sony's portable device.

We contacted Sony, who publish the Tekken series in the UK, but were given a straightforward "no comment".

It's unthinkable that Tekken won't appear on PSP at some point and we're fully anticipating an official announcement from Namco
