It’s a bit like a cross between Ghostbusters and Pokemon, and it works brilliantly. The camera capture is extremely well handled, and the various ways of capturing the creatures, such as slapping or tickling them, keeps things fresh.

Ultimately, it’s an acceptable racer rather than a mind-blowing one. Still, Codemasters has never been under any illusion about F1 2009’s purpose; as a pick-up-and-play racer that daddy and his younglings can use together and as a fan-calming appetizer before the ‘real’ thing next year.

This poorly ported PSP game lacks the multiplayer that redeemed its console counterpart, and is ruined by an unwieldy camera, terrible performance issues and mind-numbing repetition. Even the intended audience will be bored by this dead-simple 3D brawler.
