Harmonix and MTV Games have announced that the entirety of Pearl Jam's new album Backspacer will be added to the Rock Band Music Store of Downloadable Content (DLC) for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii this week. The album hits shelves today, September 20th 2009, and will also be added to the Rock Band Music Store for Xbox 360 today, for Wii on September 22nd, and for PlayStation 3 on September 24th. When Sony officially revealed the PSP Go, some eyebrows were raised by the system's $249.99 price point. After all, the current PSP-3000 system can play everything the PSP Go can play, has a UMD disc drive, and sells for $169.99 new.

Some of that sticker shock may be alleviated, as Best Buy indicates that the $249.99 price will at least include a game. According to the retailer's product listing, the retail packaging should contain "PSPgo system, USB cable, AC adapter and Rock Band Unplugged voucher."

Music games off 36% this year, EA expects Rock Band sales down $400 million (News)

Buried in today's Elecrtonic Arts earnings call was this amazing revelation from COO John Pleasants: Revenue for music/rhythm games was down 36% during the first quarter of the year and 42% in March, per NPD. As a result, EA has cut the gross sales revenue it expects from its EA Partner division, which distributes "Rock Band" for Viacom.

That's a huge decline. And keep in mind that there weren't any major music game releases during the first quarter of last year, while 2009 saw "Guitar Hero: Metallica" (albeit at the very end of March). As we started to see in late 2008, sales of "Rock Band 2" and "Guitar Hero: World Tour" must be down massively from the original "Rock Band" and "Guitar Hero III."

And while EA CEO John Riccitiello said he feels "really bullish" about "Rock Band: Beatles Edition," the fact that the company is expecting $400 million less in sales indicates just how big an impact continued sales of "Rock Band" through last year mattered, and how far "Rock Band 2" is lagging.

There have been a few attempts at interactions between PlayStation 3 and PSP, but it's hardly an industry trend. Could that change with Rock Band Unplugged, Harmonix and MTV Games' portable take on their band game?

Nope.

Despite some ideas 1UP had about the PS3 version of Rock Band or Rock Band 2 sharing sharing downloadable content or unlocking features for Rock Band Unplugged on PSP, Harmonix told 1UP at a demo last week that's not the case and there's no interaction between the two platforms.

We have to thank the ESRB website for dishing out more specific details on game content. From the ESRB website, we learn a little more about the PSP's upcoming Rock Band Unplugged. There's a brief mention of the inclusion of guitar, bass and drums in the game. There's also four songs that can be confirmed for Rock Band Unplugged, based on the ESRB descriptions.
