Dec 21, 2007 Weekly PSP sales more than doubled during the week ended December 16 as Sony's handheld left all but the mighty DS in the shade. As is the norm, DS was the bestselling system, with sales up almost 55,000 week-over-week. However, it was PSP sales, which shot up by 93,000, that were most surprising, especially considering that only one PSP title made the latest Japanese software chart - Hot Shots Golf Portable 2 at No19. Wii sales were up by over 50,000 units as PS3 sales slumped ... » Read More

Dec 20, 2007 Another year, another collection of meaningless awards for games you already knew were good. So, instead of desperately waiting for other people to re-affirm opinions you already had, why not read a whole choking list of awards that celebrate 2007 in a slightly different way? Last year's Potentially Annual Platinum Chalice awards were met with such deafening acclaim (you saw the parade, right?) that we simply had to follow through and make them a grand, yearly tradition like ... » Read More

Dec 19, 2007 Heavyweight movie producer Jerry Bruckheimer is teaming up with MTV Games to produce new entertainment properties that will begin life as games. "Video games represent a new and innovative medium for what we've always tried to do, which is to tell great stories. But this medium is unique in that it gives the player control over how those stories unfold," Bruckheimer (reportedly) says. "I look forward to working with MTV Games to create new original game stories, always looking ... » Read More

Dec 18, 2007 You can finally abandon the minefield of third-party media applications for PSP, because the official media manager is now free to download. Sony at last acknowledges that you need to do a fair amount of data manipulation to get the most out of your PSP, and you shouldn't have to pay for it. You can now grab the official media manager from the Japanese website. Installation is in Japanese, but it's a simple case of hitting the "hai" buttons (on the left) until it's all done, ... » Read More

Dec 18, 2007 The Entertainment Software Association has confirmed that the E3 Media & Business Summit will be returning back to its historic digs at the Los Angeles Convention Center next year. Is the 'old' super-sized E3 back from the dead? Dec 17, 2007 The funny thing about the freedom of speech is that everyones for it until they see something that rubs them the wrong way. Take these Top 7 Most Evil Games for instance. We wish these games didnt exist. But if we want developers to have the freedom to make the games we actually want to play without having to worry about censorship fettering creativity, there needs to be a place for the ones we wouldnt touch with a ten foot pole too. Dec 14, 2007 It's fair to say that we direct all our technology into two things: boobs and bombs. Video games have exploited the latter from the moment they first appeared, so it comes as no surprise that violence has become more and more intense as gaming tech improves. So, if the bombs have gotten bigger, what about the boobs? Join us as we dive into the dreadful beginnings of women in games, then stroll through their gradual evolution from sex trophies to sex trophies with giant guns and ... » Read More

Dec 14, 2007 95% of videogame characters are little more than background noise. They talk, blink, maybe wave their arms around a bit while yelling at you about 'keys', 'objectives' and 'friendly fire'. But sometimes you run into characters that stand out like explosions in the night sky against the cardboard cut-outs that inhabit the majority of games. These are the characters you actually care about. Now we're not likely to confess our feelings for a polygonal personality to random people on ... » Read More

14 Dec, 2007 Every gamer is an armchair critic. We all have brilliant ideas on how a developer could have done a better job or what they need to include in their next game to make it the absolute pinnacle of awesomeness. And truly dedicated armchair critics want their valuable opinions to be heard. So they post on a forum. Maybe the developer's own dedicated virtual chamber or just a general gaming arena of chat and debate. But are the developers actually listening and, more importantly, do ... » Read More

Dec 13, 2007 Konami has coughed up some details on the portable versions of PES 2008, which is being worked on by Konami's football studio in Tokyo. Full Edit modes are also in there and Master League info can be swapped between the PSP and PlayStation 2 versions, as can League, World Tour and Cup Mode data. On the DS ... » Read More

Dec 13, 2007 Everyone hates a dull holiday party. So, after a very scientific survey involving people raising their hands as we shouted out questions, we've determined that there are two main causes for sucky year-end get togethers. The first is relatives and friends who don't play video games. The second is sobriety. Thus, we here at GamesRadar have set out to eradicate these two poopers of the holiday party. Thanks to some surprisingly enthusiastic lab testing, we've come up with this list ... » Read More

Designing a box for a game is tough. With one image, you need to stand out on the shelf, catch the eye of the casual consumer and convince them that your game is worth their money. Some games get it wrong; others get it so wrong that potential customers actually recoil in horror. We've all seen terrible old atrocities like Mega Man and Alex Kidd in Miracle World, but don't think for a second that awful cover art is a thing of the past, left behind by a more sophisticated games industry.
