PSP Preview | Worms Open Warfare
There comes a time in everyone's life where you're so damn bored or burned out that you actually flop down onto your couch watch an entire TV show about bugs, spiders and the various other creatures that inhabit your yard. At some point, they have to defend their turf from an invading 70-eyed predator, and that's kinda what Worms: Open Warfare is all about. Except both factions are armed with the latest short and long range weapons the world has to ...

PSP Preview | Syphon Filter Dark Mirror
It's going to be a while before PSP owners see an honest-to-God Metal Gear Solid for their handheld, but a trickle of stealth-action games is already starting to emerge. Arriving March 14 is yet another Syphon Filter, and while the franchise has lost a lot of its luster over the years, this one doesn't look half bad. A third-person shooter at heart, Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror once again stars Gabe Logan, a raspy government superspy who can somehow stay hidden while lugging around a small ...

PSP Preview | Exit
Two-dimensional gaming on handhelds might be on the decline, but you'd never know that from looking at Exit, an upcoming action-puzzler from Taito. With a unique, nonviolent concept and a striking resemblance to the original Prince of Persia games, Exit casts players as Mr. ESC, a fedora-wearing, coffee-fixated escape artist tasked with rescuing people from disaster-stricken areas. Fighting against the clock, Mr. ESC runs, jumps and climbs his way through 2D disaster areas(rendered in sylized ...

PSP Preview | Metal Gear Acid 2
By turning the sneaking action of Metal Gear Solid into a card-based strategy game, Metal Gear Acid instantly became the most divisive title on the PSP. Its strategy approach was interesting, sure, but even those who ended up enjoying its odd new direction often got frustrated with the slow pace, endless text tutorials and conspicuous lack of neck-snapping. Strategy-haters probably won't be much happier with Metal Gear Acid 2 when it hits on March 28. But thanks to a few sweeping changes, the ...

PSP Preview | Pursuit Force
Did you think Max Payne was badass? Did you think Burnout 3 was extreme? Well, yeah, they were. But if you liked either of those, you'll want to check out Sony's Pursuit Force. Part racer, part shooter, the game straps players into the boots of a daredevil cop who's just joined a highly specialized anti-gang unit. His tactics? Take down the perps by leaping onto their cars, motorcycles and big rigs at high speed, shooting them in the face and jacking their rides. That's Pursuit Force's main ...

PSP Preview | Tomb Raider Legend
Oh Lara Croft ... so hot, so brilliant, so starring in awful games for so long. The original Tomb Raider was an opus of Indiana Jones-style adventuring, puzzle-solving, dual-pistol wielding, and tank-top-staring that put Ms. Croft and the PlayStation on the map. But after Tomb Raider III, things got rough for our favorite feminine plaything. Cliches began to snake in, the baddies began to smack of caricature, while attempts at innovation had the distinct reek of gimmick. The nadir came with ...

PSP Preview | Me and My Katamari
When a game becomes a series, no matter how damn cool it was the first time around, it's bound to get stale. The faster it happens, the worse its chances. That's the challenge facing the Katamari Damacy series right now. Its third installment in two years is set to hit the PSP, and that's the main hook: the new game is simply exciting by virtue of being portable. Me & My Katamari follows in the path cleared by its PS2 predecessors, which had you collecting everything from coins and children to ...

PSP Preview | Untold Legends The Warriors Code
We're not sure how untold those legends can really be: this is the follow-up to PSP launch title Untold Legends, itself related to a whole family of top-down RPGs based on Champions of Norrath and the Baldur's Gate series. Despite the many upgrades appearing in Warrior's Code, it still feels familiar. Still, if it means more good stuff, who are we to complain? If we had to come up with an 11th commandment, it would be, "Thou shalt give us more good stuff." The combat's a little more complex ...

PSP Preview | Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max
Don't let the "3" in this game's title fool you; there were plenty more than just two Street Fighter games before this one. Closer to two dozen, in fact. However, that just makes it more impressive that this is one of the best, a game that squashes almost all of the Street Fighters that came before it into one excellent game that still holds up remarkably well today. In fact, the slightly renamed PSP game Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max even tosses in a few new neat additions. Like what? Like new ...

PSP Preview | PSP
Compared to EA's newest racing acquisition Burnout, the last Need for Speed outing was a little underwhelming. While it sold well to those gamers who prefer to spend their money on fully established, 'safe' buys, Need for Speed wasn't anywhere near Burnout's level. However, thanks to the new graphical splendour bestowed upon this new iteration by the advanced power of Xbox 360 (or should we say, ), NFS has been given a new lease of life. Everything's just so much more intricately detailed ...
