While associate producer Chris Hinojosa-Miranda couldn't precisely explain why the title has taken so long to reach its final destination, he did say that the added time provided more focus on localization and translation. (Even still, we manged to spot a few lingering instances of "Engrish.")

"Media Molecule's LittleBigPlanet leads the nominees for the ninth annual Game Developers Choice Awards with seven nominations, organizers have revealed.

Number None's Braid follows closely with five nominations. Among the nominations for LittleBigPlanet is the coveted Game of the Year award.

Other nominees for that category include Fallout 3 and Left 4 Dead, each of which received a total of four award nominations; Rockstar North's Grand Theft Auto IV, which earned a total of three nominations, and Lionhead Studios' Fable 2. Winners will be honored at an awards show taking place during the 2009 Game Developers Conference."

Sometime later this month Rolito's creation is going to be sold as a plush doll in Japan for 3,990 yen ($42) each. At that price the stuffed Patapon isn't really a stocking stuffer since you can purchase Patapon or digitally import Patapon 2 for less.

The juiciest tidbit from the April issue of EGM is kind of a bummer: A Crackdown sequel looks like it won't happen any time soon. Sure, Microsoft has danced around the idea of making another addictive orb-hunting shooter, but Quartermann says even if Crackdown 2 does come to fruition, original developer Realtime Worlds probably won't be making it.

It also seems like Sony's unique PSP game Patapon will have some sort of spin-off; rumor is something Patapon-related will pop up on the PlayStation Network.

According to Team ICO Gamers, Japanese message boards and blogs are claiming that the mysterious drum puzzle game Patapon, inspired by the work of artist Rolito and to be released on PSP this winter, is being developed by staff from Team ICO and the Locoroco Studio and is being directed by Fumito Ueda.

Visual flourishes like the owly drums, totems and horned horseriders, which are very similar to the artwork in the previous works of the designer (ICO, Shadow of the Colossus) suggest this could be likely.

The player's rhythmic accuracy is what keeps these little spear-wielding eyeballs going; the better the beat sounds, the more fierce the fighting. Button presses determine how the fighters react, with each acting as a command of sorts: attack, defend, advance, and so on.
