They would be a complete mystery to us were it not for Brett Ratner, who, according to a passing mention in a recent press release from MGM, has been tapped to direct the God of War film.

See, we hate Brett Ratner. Well, no, we don't hate the person. We're sure he's a perfectly nice man. But we hate everything he's ever put on film from Money Talks to X3 aka Brett Ratner's First-Person Theatrical Abortion. ... You know what? Forget what we said, we do hate Brett Ratner as a person. And if he directs God of War, it'll be awful, because all of his movies are awful and we don't know why he keeps being allowed to make them. The end."

Man-Bat to Appear in Lego Batman (LEGO Batman: The Videogame)

The villain ranks for the Lego Batman game due out later this year continues to swell. Last month 1UP reported on the inclusion of Bane, Clayface, and Nightwing. This month 1UP only has one, but it's a wild one, literally. Man-Bat will be bringing his genetically mashed up bat powers to the bad guys side. Like many villains, Man-Bat is the product of good intentions gone wrong. Dr. Kirk Langstrom in an attempt to cure his deafness creates a serum using bat DNA. While it successfully granted him bat-like sonar, it also turned him into a man-sized bat. He gained wings, allowing him to fly, and superhuman strength, but like a bat lost much of his ability to see in daylight.

EA's Maddenpalooza Maddetailed (Madden NFL 09 )

EA has dropped details on this year's celebration for the release of Madden NFL 09, annoyingly titled Maddenpalooza. Mentioned during Leigh's interview with Steve Schnur earlier this month, Maddenpalooza is a music festival featuring bands from current and past Madden soundtracks that will take place at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California on August 11th. Fans can snag tickets through local radio stations or at the Rose Bowl on event day, which entitle them to a day filled with music, NFL star signings, and various other bits of marketing, all leading up to 9PM when the stadium's pop-up Wal-Mart will sell the first copies of the game.

Artists scheduled to appear include headliners Good Charlotte, Busta Rhymes, Rev Theory, Airbourne, From First to Last and Young Dre The Truth. Sounds like a worthy successor to the traditional Maddenoliday, more than enough to hold us until they add the word Madden to the front of some new festive term.

Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 09 features Club Tuner which gives gamers the opportunity to calibrate their clubs to fit their personal tendencies and preferences. Players can test and customize their driver, fairway woods, irons and wedges. If the gamer doesn't want to invest a lot of time customizing their clubs, their performance coach Hank Haney, can also provide recommendations on the optimal settings for each of their clubs.

Players will be able to tweak the sliders on five club attributes: power, workability, loft, spin and bias, therefore allowing the gamer to maximize their equipment for various types of conditions or courses. But strategy will come into play as gamers must weigh the risks of club performance versus ease of use. So tune wisely!

Star Ocean: First Departure marks the series' first release on the handheld and charts a deep-rooted storyline about a band of rag-tag rebels who attempt to prevent a galactic war.

Consider it "Star Wars III and a Half" - complete with a pivotal plot twist. When LucasArts releases "Star Wars: The Force Unleashed" on Sept. 16, the video game will serve as George Lucas' official median between 2005's "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith" and 1977's "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope." In the game, players become Darth Vader's secret apprentice and use The Force to hunt the remaining Jedi.

GameSpot E3 2008: Trophies coming to the PSP? (Buzz! Master Quiz)

GameSpot writes: "What we heard: Though it got off to a bumpy start, the PlayStation 3's trophy system is now in place, already rewarding many players--some retroactively--for their in-game feats. However, the same privilege hasn't been extended to owners of the PlayStation Portable, which has no trophy system....yet.

That may soon change, though, if hints dropped during GameSpot Live's E3 2008 Stage Show are any indication. During a presentation of Buzz! Master Quiz for the PSP, producer Emerson Escobar described the in-game medal system for the trivia game, which will have over 5,000 questions divided along three levels. "We've implemented a new medal system for bronze, silver, and gold. You basically have to get bronze to move onto the next batch of questions," beamed Escobar.

Then, around the 12 minute mark of this clip, the producer promised something even more interesting. "The cool thing is it isn't just getting the gold medal," he chimed. "We've also implemented a trophy system. Let's say you answer a question within one second, you get a lightning finger trophy. If you answer a question within half a second, you get a supersonic trophy."

When asked if his comments meant that the PSP was getting trophies, Escobar laughed nervously. "Check back with us later," he said, grinning--and then declining to go into further detail."

As E3 is a-coming, we expected to have a more barren list of releases for this week. It seems that we were quite wrong about that. New games include anime platforming coming from the big-headed kids of Code Lyoko. NCAA 2009 represents the sports games, meanwhile Go! Explore device finally out in Europe.

The simplistic yet uniquely addictive PSP game was a breath of fresh air when it was released in 2006 -- easy to come to grips with, fun to look at, and downright charming once you broke out the headphones and learned all the neat little songs the Locos sung for you. Two years on, and the music is still stuck in the heads of thousands worldwide.

Rumors about LocoRoco 2 have been buzzing around for over a year now (former Sony vice president Phil Harrison inadvertently confirmed it when he mentioned how he was playing "LocoRoco's next version" at the 2007 DICE event), but now we've got official confirmation: the Locos are heading back to the PSP, and it's going to be as cute as ever. Electronic Arts Inc today unveiled the music track listing for Madden NFL 09, set to release August 12, 2008. The new soundtrack features 26 songs from a multi-genre roster of superstar acts and soon-to-breakthrough artists, including Franz Ferdinand, Good Charlotte, Airbourne, From First To Last, The All-American Rejects, Rev Theory, K'Naan, and Kidz In The Hall.

First-ever Arab Localized Game for Xbox 360 and PlayStation to arrive in the Middle East (Wall-E)

Middle-East website Al Bawaba reports that Disney Pixar's Wall-E will be the first Arab localized video game. Luke Keighran, THQ Export Sales Manager said:

"We are delighted to be part of this, launching an Arabic game is every Arab gamers' wish. This is a great opportunity for us to grow further in promising territories like Saudi Arabia and Egypt, and a solid demonstration of our commitment to the Middle East market. It is [distributor] Pluto Games' enthusiasm and will that made this commercially possible and we hope it will be the first of a long line up for Arabic titles in the future.

"There are only few games that would suit the Middle East's morals more than WALL*E. The game depicts family virtues in a fun adventurous story line immersing the players in a world of passionate pursuit for adventure."

Phantasy Star Portable Demo in Japan This Month (Phantasy Star Portable)

On July 31, gamers based in Japan will be getting Phantasy Star Portable for Sony's PSP. Now any fan of the game knows that waiting for approximately one month can be hell. Thankfully, gamers in the aforementioned region won't have to wait that long.

Apparently, Sega has announced plans of releasing a demo for the game on July 14. According to the reports, the demo will probably be available via the Japan PSP Browser page and will allow players to try out both Story (single player)and Multi Mode (co-op with up to four players) .

Dissidia: Final Fantasy at 50 percent; gameplay details dropped (Final Fantasy II Anniversary Edition)

Dissidia Final Fantasy details have once again been spotted and this time, they're coming from Japanese game magazine Famitsu. the game's producer Tetsuya Nomura, director Takeshi Arakawa, and planning director Mitsunori Takahashi all sat down with the publication and answered a few questions.

First on the agenda was the question of why the game is taking so long to finish. The devs answered that the team doing it is pretty young and adjusting was one of the most time-consuming parts of development. As for how far along into completion the team has gone, they said they're at about 50 percent and that character models are almost completely sealed.
