Patapon Ships For PSP

Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. announced today the release of Patapon, available exclusively for PSP. Developed by Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, Japan Studio, Patapon is a 2D platform-action game that transforms players into a drum-wielding leader responsible for guiding the Patapons, a small, quirky tribe of warriors seeking to reclaim their homeland. Following on the heels of a successful launch in Japan, Patapon makes its official North American debut featuring a one-of-a-kind art style, infectious music, and a unique control system where players will issue real-time commands to the Patapon troops through a variety of rhythm-based combinations. Patapon will be available at an MSRP of $19.99.

- Patapon PSP demo to launch over both the PlayStation Store for PC (http://store.playstation.com) and PS3 on February 14th, 2008.
- Patapon PSP demo will have the same save-to-final feature as the UMD version.
- Memory Stick Duo needed to transfer the demo to your PSP. Your PSP does not have telepathic powers nor does it learn through osmosis (yet).
- Patapon PSP demo will complete your life and fill you full of hearts and French stuff (you know, like Rolito).

Sony has had a rummage down the back of the sofa and told that European gamers will get a free sampler of Patapon after all.

It goes live in the PSP Store on 21st February, and is the same demo-to-final-save taster that US fans get when pre-ordering the title from Gamestop.

Patapon will be out for PSP on 22nd February.

So instead we've conjured up some mad PSP Juju and created the first ever demo-to-final save technology, also includes a demo-only exclusive: The Spear of Protection, an ultra-rare pon-weapon."

Director of Software Marketing Jeff Reese writes on the PlayStation.Blog that Patapon will be released on February 26th at $19.99 in the US:

"As you can see, Patapon is really different and highly creative, a new kind of PSP experience we don't want anyone to miss. So to make it more accessible to everyone, we are happy to officially announce that we are releasing it at $19.99, lower than other new PSP games. It's a game that shouldn't get lost with some other big titles launching on the platform. It deserves your attention because it's very cool.

Normally, this price had been reserved for our Greatest Hits line, a collection of well established titles. But we felt that the unique nature of Patapon fit nicely into this pricepoint, and would work to attract the masses (casual, younger) who may otherwise miss it. So we'll see if it works!"
