An internal GameStop database screenshot shows a listing for "Sony PSP NGP," with a release date of 01/01/12 and a price of $299.99. If the leak is to be believed, Sony's next-gen portable could sport the highest launch price ever for a major handheld game system...

In a perfect world Saturdays would last for 72 hours, scoffing cheeseburgers would give you heat vision and Naughty Dog would be developing the new Uncharted for Sony’s NGP. Unfortunately, we exist in a world where Monday mornings last precisely half a millennium, burgers lead to coronary bypasses and Drake’s portable adventure is being handled by Sony’s Bend studio. Fret not, though, as the internal SCE team has plenty of experience working on PSP. Find out why Naughty Dog isn’t handling development duties itself inside…

We love Kevin Butler. After all, what’s not to adore about a definitely not fake Sony advertising lackey. Glorified corporate shill or not, though, most of his adverts please our eyes with their wry humour and pithy delivery. Still, KB (or, more accurately the people who run his Twitter account) have made themselves look like total buffoons by accidentally retweeting the PS3 jailbreak code…

Is Square’s latest PSP exclusive shaping up to be worth its incredibly confusing title? Watch as both girl and boy join forces to fight through an unending scourge of playable cutscenes...

Hey have you ever heard of Final Fantasy IV? You have? Oh you've heard about it four times already? On SNES, PS1, GBA and DS you say? OK that's cool but now it's coming to PSP so please watch this new trailer!

Hot on the soggy heels of fountain woman comes a ten-year old kid with who almost met his maker thanks to hand-held gaming. The startling CCTV footage shows the little mite wandering along a busy platform, allegedly holding a PSP and staring intently at it. But without even a glance upwards he takes a nose-dive off the edge and onto the tracks.

It has been years since fans of the Square Enix series Parasite Eve have seen a new entry, so the March 29 launch of The 3rd Birthday, which features the Parasite Eve cast and environment, is highly anticipated by the niche crowd. Now, the game's director says it may have missed the opportunity to properly quench the thirst for a new Parasite Eve game.

You are cordially invited to celebrate Aya's 3rd Birthday with Square Enix on March 29th on the PSP. Gifts are not necessary, but guests are encouraged to bring a firearm of their choosing, infection masks, a first aid kit, and a decent pair of shoes...

So the dust of the PSP2/NGP's announcement has settled and all around is stillness, save for the gentle whistling of the wind and the soft howl of distant marketing coyotes. That, and the rabid clamouring of gamers thundering over the horizon, bellowing for some proper gameplay footage and for me to stop the contrived yet poetic metaphors.

And they're right to do that clamouring. For whatever claims your press release touts, whatever lumps of fancy-named silicon you have under the hood, and however many times you carelessly spout hollow twatspeak like "revolution" or "paradigm shift", your console doesn't really exist until it has a decent amount of game content to show off. And now the PSP2 (oh come on, Sony, you know that's what you'll default to) has.

Does it live up to the "PS3 in your pocket" claims made by so many excitable giddy-goats? No. But superficially at least, it's not far off. Is that enough to make a successful handheld? It remains to be seen. Have a look and lemee know what you think.

Square Enix announced today that its comprehensive Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection pack for the PSP will be ready to sell on April 19th. The release features an upgraded version of the seminal fourth game in the Final Fantasy series, complete with new bonus levels, optimized PSP graphics, a re-mastered soundtrack and - for the first time ever in box form - a copy of its mobile sequel The After Years...
