Need for Speed Undercover

Small and badly formed

Handheld versions of flashy racers like Need for Speed are always going to suffer in comparison to their console counterparts. Even if they nail the all-important speed factor, it’s often at the expense of beauty, features or background detail. Undercover isn’t even particularly fast, making its trimmed feature palette and barren world all the more unappealing.

You’ll take part in street races, and use your winnings to buy and upgrade cars. There are several race types, but none that are memorable, unique or fun. The city itself is largely empty, and not all that satisfying to drive through either. This is a purely perfunctory racing game – select a location, win a few races and move on – with no attempt at innovation other than the ill-fitting ‘plot’. There are a wealth of better options available – pick up Burnout or Wipeout Pure, instead.
