Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops

The dying game

Unforgettable scenes of gaming death

Shadow of the Beast 2
This Amiga classic featured one of the most amazing game over screens anyone had ever seen or heard. Just listen to that guitar solo over '80s synth. Lovely. And such poignant artwork too. Amazingly, it doesn't come across as pretentious, even today. We like.

The Simpsons: Bart's Nightmare
This Megadrive/Genesis and SNES 'classic' has perhaps the worst game over screen ever. The family gather around to look at Bart's F-graded exam paper, which is pinned to the fridge. Yes, it's The Simpsons. Yes, they look pretty much like they do in the cartoon. Can we go now, please?

Above: The Simpsons' new game is looking sweet (no pun inte... oh, go on then). The old ones were awful
