Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops

The dying game

Unforgettable scenes of gaming death

Donkey Kong Country 2
A lot of people were disturbed by this game over screen. Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong look utterly beaten and dejected, sitting in a prison cell with bars over the window. As if that wasn't enough, the music penetrates the player's soul, ensuring you do your utmost to ensure you never make the poor monkeys sad again. Except Diddy, the irritating sod.

Grand Theft Auto
GTA used to be viewed entirely from above, of course. But it's nice to see Rockstar giving us the classic ascending camera looking down at our stricken form in the 3D iterations of the series. It's almost as though our antihero is rising to heaven... although considering the murderous rampage he's just been on, maybe it should be the other way?

Above: Game over? Shame, that was fun. GTA3 is still immensely playable, despite its age
