Aside from the campaign mode, we also were able to try out the quick, no-nonsense Skirmish mode. Here, we picked a skin (ever wanted to play as a German SS spook? Here's your chance), a weapon and then set out to tackle bots in a simple deathmatch. The computer-controlled baddies were actually pretty competent at handing us our asses, and hunting them through the huge levels was more fun than we expected. If you're feeling a little more adventurous players (but you still don't want to mess around in the story mode), you'll be able to set up custom missions that can be played through in a matter of minutes.

All this is in addition to the six different multiplayer modes, which will support up to 32 players online or eight via ad-hoc. Heroes does a few unprecedented things here (for the PSP, anyway), including join-anytime matches and server software that players can download to host and administrate their own games.

While it still has a way to go before it's finished, Medal of Honor Heroes already looks like a step in the right direction for PSP shooters. Expect this bundle of World War II coolness to hit in late October.
