Madden NFL 08

A pint-sized Madden delivering a big-time experience

The meatiest part of 08 is the Franchise mode, which boasts a ton of features that'll keep anyone busy for months. This ain't no stripped-down mode either, as you'll be tasked with taking players through a grueling training camp, signing free agents, adjusting depth charts, even practicing key plays for specific opponents to give your team an edge each week. It's an addiction that's already making our commute entirely more bearable.

Exclusive to the PSP is the Superstar Challenge, something we've seen (and loved) in some other EA PSP sports titles. You'll be dropped into the shoes of different NFL studs in real-life situations from last season, tasked with accomplishing an in-game goal. It's a nifty way to play as a lot of different teams and players you normally wouldn't (or, in the case of Michael Vick, never will again), although it doesn't take very long to get through all of them.

About the only significant problem we could find is the wonky online multiplayer setup. Seems that no matter how hard we tried, connecting to and then getting through a game over the internet was nearly impossible. When we were able to get one going, slowdown and freezes were a pain in the neck, rendering the experience lame. Here's hoping that EA is working on firming up the online issues, otherwise they're barely worth trying.
