On the latest 8-4 play podcast, Tetsuya Mizuguchi, the mind behind games like Rez, Space Channel 5, and Lumines, hinted that there would be another Lumines for Sonys next handheld, the PlayStation Vita.

Sadly Q Entertainment had some bad news for all you portable puzzle fans today. Lumines I & II will not be on PSN any time soon.

0okm is reporting on a rumor that suggests the Japanese Greatest Hits versions of Lumines have been patched to require Firmware 3.51. It's unknown if the actual exploit has been patched, or if Firmware 3.51 was just slapped on the disc. If the latter, it may still be possible to downgrade using this disc. Until more is known, you might want to stick to the used game bins for Lumines now.

In what must be a record time, Sony has responded to PSP hacker's latest efforts to subvert the handheld's security and play unsigned software and pirate games. Just days ago, hackers released an exploit that allowed PSP owners to use a copy of the puzzle game Lumines to downgrade their PSPs to an earlier version of the firmware, which was vulnerable to further hacking and homebrew applications. Can anyone help MaxConsole piece this together? Lumines on the PSP has risen from a sales rank of 796 a short while ago to number 6 just now and is up a massive 13,166% in terms of sales. Oh wait, maybe Noobz' PSP universal firmware exploit has something to do with it...
