Gerard Campbell writes:

Day 1, Tokyo Games Show notes.

"Patapon 2 (Sony, PlayStation Portable): I loved the first Patapon game and played it heaps until the UMD got munted and now it's unplayable. So, I'm delighted to tell you that Patapon 2 is more of the same bright, cheerful graphics and catchy "pata-pata-pata-pon" rhythm.

Locoroco 2 (Sony, PSP): The bouncing, singing and smiling blob is back. LocoRoco 2 will feature new levels, "fresh, jolly characters", more than 45 in-game movies that enhance the story, new locoroco and new songs. The game's designer, Tsutomu Kouno, told the presentation that he made the original Locoroco because he "wanted to bring surprises to people all over the world and was so happy that children around the world loved the game".

Infamous (Sucker Punch, PlayStation 3): Infamous is something of a departure for developers Sucker Punch, best known for their cartoon series Sly Cooper. Infamous tells the story of an ordinary man who finds he has super powers after an accident in the city he lives in and the city is overrun by chaos and anarchy. He only has an electricity-based power to start with but as the game progresses he will develop more powers. He can also use a cognitive power to see where enemies have been."

SCEE has confirmed that LocoRoco 2 will be shipping across Europe this November.

The sequel to 2006's PSP hit "uses both music and colour as part of the gameplay" reads the press release.

"The story begins when the happy and harmonious LocoRoco are attacked by the evil Moja army – who want to destroy their beautiful planet with their evil music. Easy to pick up, players use the simple buttons of the PSP to tilt the LocoRoco's planet back and forth, manoeuvring the jelly-like bubbles of fun to collect musical notes and other colourful items. As LocoRoco collect more musical notes, various bonus features will unlock, such as viewing maps."
The simplistic yet uniquely addictive PSP game was a breath of fresh air when it was released in 2006 -- easy to come to grips with, fun to look at, and downright charming once you broke out the headphones and learned all the neat little songs the Locos sung for you. Two years on, and the music is still stuck in the heads of thousands worldwide.

Rumors about LocoRoco 2 have been buzzing around for over a year now (former Sony vice president Phil Harrison inadvertently confirmed it when he mentioned how he was playing "LocoRoco's next version" at the 2007 DICE event), but now we've got official confirmation: the Locos are heading back to the PSP, and it's going to be as cute as ever. As before, you use the L, R, and Circle buttons to help the strangely cute LocoRoco across a dangerous planetary landscape, with the merry blobs singing and generally having a good time along the way."

LocoRoco 2 will launch for PSP on 17 October, with PSP's Pursuit Force Extreme Justice appearing in September and Syphon Filter sequel Logan's Shadow also hitting in October, making this autumn a bumper season for Sony's handheld.

The dates come from an official-looking Sony release schedule, unearthed by NeoGaf forumites. The list also features a decent line-up of autumnal hits for both PS2 and PS3. On PlayStation 2, Syphon Filter Dark Mirror is set for a 12 September ...
Sony Worldwide Studios president Phil Harrison has confirmed that a sequel to last year's blob-rolling PSP adventure LocoRoco is currently in the works.

Fielding questions at the D.I.C.E. summit in Las Vegas yesterday, Harrison said that he was "recently playing LocoRoco's next version," in response to a question asking what he was doing recently.

No more than that was said on the LocoRoco sequel, leaving gameplay details and the target platform up in the air. After the rubber duck ...
Sony's own Phil Harrison has promised LocoRoco will return, despite the PSP-only blob-'em-up being not quite the DS defeating smash hit the company was hoping for.

During his interview with MTV News, the boss of Sony's worldwide studios first called the title "a very successful game for us," then went on to say that Sony is "going to bring LocoRoco back in a couple of new ways with some new friends in the future."
