Free Running, the extreme sports game released back in 2007 on PlayStation2 and PlayStation Portable (PSP), is heading to Wii, Nintendo DS and PC formats in Q2 2009.
A lot of weird and wonderful things have been done to promote a new game, but projecting the game onto the side of building so that it can be seen from five miles away has to be one of the most impressive.
Free Running (the game) has seemingly overcome the obstacles, finding a publisher in Ubisoft and enough mainstream attention to warrant a UK release in mid-March. The game was first spotted in June 2005 when then publisher Eidos was showing off some footage of the Core Designs PSP title, which was also being called Parkour Freerun (note: parkour and free running are two distinct disciplines).
Proudly announced by Eidos as one of the first wave of PSP games in the summer of 2005, just as the BBC had bought the sport of using the urban environment as a huge extreme sports playground - at least for extremely fit men wearing bright red articles of clothing - Free Running promptly disappeared into the smog. Now it's back again, bouncing across the rooftops...
