Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions

Also known as: FF Tactics: Lion War, Final Fantasy Tactics: Lion War [UK]

Two Final Fantasy Tactics games appear on the horizon

A remake and an original game both go portable - get ready

Today, via Shonen Jump magazine (and thanks to our friends at NeoGAF) we bring you info on two new games in the Final Fantasy Tactics series.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War is being released for the PSP system. It's a port of the original classic PSone game, but with the addition of new cinemas and new job classes (including the Onion Knight which recently made its appearance in Final Fantasy III for DS.) We hope this makes it worth spending (a likely) $40 on, considering that downloadable PSone games for the PSP cost a mere $5.99.

Above: Final Fantasy Tactics for the PSone became a cult classic among strategy fans; the GBA sequel, on the other hand, was a mainstream hit.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2: The Sealed Grimoire, on the other hand, is an entirely new game. Thought it's entitled Advance 2, there seems to be some debate over whether the game will hit the GBA or the Nintendo DS. No further details are yet available.

These two games join Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings for the DS as part of the "Ivalice Alliance," named for the world in which Final Fantasy Tactics, FF Tactics Advance and Final Fantasy XII all take place in.

After several of years of uneven releases - it took how long for Final Fantasy XII to come out? - it seems that Square Enix is finally getting off of its ass and pumping out the games. We couldn't be more thrilled.

When contacted about these new games, a Square Enix US spokesperson declined official comment, except to confirm the existence of the Ivalice Alliance project.
