What game ads looked like when the SNES was alive

Some good, some bad, but mostly very, very ugly

Sometimes we like adverts. As long as they're clever. Or arty. Or have got monkeys in. Or ladies that look like they want to touch us in the pants. They're all pretty good. The other kind of advert that we like are old ones. Even if they're completely rubbish - and mostly they are -  they still hold a certain irresistible, nostalgic charm. And we're sure 'veteran' gamers will feel inclined to agree as they browse the next few pages, where we've generously gathered a veritable gallery of game advert antiquities.

Can you remember Boogerman? Was Street Racer really that racist? And what the hell was Bungie's Frank O'Connor doing on an advert for Hook? Intrigued? Follow us, then, as we skip with caution down the minefield of shit that is more commonly known as Memory Lane. Youngsters feel free to join the merriment and see just how bad the good old days really were...

Donkey Kong Country | Nintendo | 1994

22 years for an ape wearing a tie? Jesus H Miyamoto! Give us five minutes, a mishapen monkey penis and a pair of milkers the size of swollen shopping bags and we'd have old Donkey Kong looking more gruesome than a transexual exile from the island of Dr Moreau.
