The good guys are really good, the bad guys are really bad, and the princesses are really doe-eyed. But sometimes, games manage to work in villains that operate in shades of gray… and other times, they accidentally make a villain out of the most sympathetic guy in the story. ...

Square Enix has given it new boxart to match, showing off all the FF heroes in CG glory.

Dissidia Universal Tuning is a new version of Dissidia that includes changes and improvements made to the game for its US release as well as more Japan-exclusive changes.

OneLastContinue: "Dissidia: Universal Tuning will launch in Japan on November 1st, a month after the PSPgo hits stores. Because of this, the game will be available both as a downloadable title and on UMD disc; early adopters and importers won't be too screwed over, though, as their saves from the initial Japanese release will in fact be compatible with Universal Tuning. One piece of advice though, Square; it's not exactly cool to announce a Japan-only "superior version" of one of your games the week before it launches in the US. It tends to annoy people."
Batman: Arkham Asylum kicks all our asses – we’ve dubbed it “the Bioshock of 2009,” and brought some moody audio for your discerning ears.

TripleChat is happy to bring you the new releases each week for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable. Along with all the new releases for each console; TripleChat also gives the scoop on what to expect in new bluray movies and how hyped you should be to either upgrade from DVD or buy for the first time.

This Week: For those who wanted to see a selection of new games instead of just one (unlike the past 2 weeks), gamers are in luck. The selection is pretty one-side but that's beside the point. This week the much anticipated release of Batman Arkham Asylum is finally here for PS3 users. On the PSP front - the semi-hyped up DISSIDIA Final Fantasy comes out as well as Warriors Orochi 2. New for the PS2 is the sequel of Mana Khemia and this week on PSN TripleChat can confirm the release of Invincible Tiger: The Legend of Han Tao.

Bluray wise, another solid week for TV show fans as Smallville (one of the first shows to go blu) releases its latest season and FOX's new drama Lie to Me makes its debut. On the movie front there is a non-Twilight related Kristen Stewart flick from the director of the insane comedy Superbad. And from the makers of the low-budget, but highly praised Little Miss Sunshine, the lovely Amy Adams stars in Sunshine Cleaning. For fans of the Devil May Cry video game franchise, the complete anime series makes its mark this week (exclusively on bluray).

Also posted are a few good incentive into buying this week's releases but nothing any gamer should be too excited about.

Square Enix is confident that Dissidia Final Fantasy will outperform all of the series' previous entries on PSP.

The upcoming beat-'em-up has already met success in Japan, and now the publisher is sure it will set new records in the UK, surpassing that of its predecessors such as the 2008 smash hit, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.

"Crisis Core was the PSP's summertime smash for last year. Thanks to Dissidia's strength of narrative and solid fighting mechanics, it manages to remain essential to the Final Fantasy hardcore whilst still becoming the definitive beat-'em-up for PSP," Square sales director Doug Bone told MCV.

E3 2008 was massive for Square Enix. They didn't announce any new games, or wow anyone with new trailers for their highly anticipated games. However, they did drop the bomb that Final Fantasy XIII would no longer be exclusive to the PlayStation 3, as it would also be appearing on the Xbox 360.

Since then, support for Square Enix has dropped considerably, and not just amongst loyal Sony supporters. Consistent rumours about Final Fantasy XIII delays and the game's production values, as well as other reports about the company have tarnished Square Enix's reputation in the West. What better place to try and rekindle the love affair than at the biggest trade shown in the world, E3.

Sony have been very vocal about their piracy fears on their Playstation Portable system, and they've been trying to think of ways to counter the issue. Square Enix are obviously one of the biggest publishers in the world, and they've supported the PSP quite strongly recently, with the releases of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and Dissidia: Final Fantasy.

Previously the site was a very simple placeholder affair with little details about the game, but with the game translation underway and the release nearing the website is now ready to go with plenty of space for extra additions as the release gets closer.

So far, Dissidia: Final Fantasy can't be seen as anything other than a huge success. It outsold Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII in a very small period of time and it continues to sell reasonably well on the PSP almost 2 months after its initial release. It's inevitable that Square Enix are already planning a full-blown sequel to capitalise on their new found riches, right? Wrong.

1UP: "Despite a hidden ending that hints at a sequel and Japanese sales inching up on that magical million, perennial Square Enix It Boy Tetsuya Nomura has flatly denied that a second Dissidia is in development.

At the end of a lengthy interview in the 704-page Dissidia Ultimania strategy guide, released yesterday, Nomura states: "There are no current plans for a sequel. To be honest, I wanted to do one up until a few months ago. I even called [Mitsunori] Takahashi, the planning director, and [Ryuji] Ikeda, the lead programmer, to talk about sequel concepts -- I told them to think about what they were going to do and prepare themselves [to make a sequel]. However, circumstances inside the company wiped that idea out... to actually make [a sequel] happen would be very difficult given the situation."

Much has been made of Dissidia: Final Fantasy. It was in theory every Final Fantasy fan's dream, and it has the potential to even bring in players who might normally be put off by the RPG nature of the series. Given this, it's hardly surprising that Dissidia beat Crisis Core's first week sales figures.

Since then it's gone from strength to strength.

PSP Hyper reports that videogame retailer blog Sinobi reports that 350,000 copies of Dissidia Final Fantasy were sold last Thursday, when the game went on sale in Japan. The number include the super nice 20th Anniversary Limited Pack that come with a special edition PSP, which is around 40,000 units according to Sinobi. It worth noting that Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII also did 350,000 copies on its first day and went on to sell almost 490,000 copies in its first week. Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G still has the best first day for a PSP game when it sold 670,000 copies earlier this year (MHP 2nd is second with 512,000).

Dissidia is an upcoming action RPG/fighting hybrid game from Square Enix, featuring every Final Fantasy main protagonist and antagonist from FF1 to 10. Square saved the most beloved characters to reveal last. The gameplay looks abundantly fun. It seems that the numbers at the sides don't represent the characters' HP, but something called "brave points", which determines attack power. There are two kinds of attacks in the game, assist and HP. Assist attacks will reduce your opponents brave points and add to your own, while HP attacks do the damage."
However, the announcement of Shantotto completely threw this out of whack and people thought that at least one other character would be joining her, on the Side of Evil. Well, it turns out that those people thought correctly.

Dissidia Final Fantasy is featured once again in the latest Famitsu. This time, the magazine has a look at probably the two biggest characters in the game, along with a recap of the game's board-based story mode and multiplayer options.

Those two biggest characters are, of course, Final Fantasy VII's Cloud and Sephiroth. The two were previously confirmed for inclusion and have been featured in past trailers.

A few days ago Final Fantasy Union mentioned some details that had surfaced as a rumour regarding the Dissidia: Final Fantasy OST. Well, now Sony had addded it to their website for purchase and the release date remains the same.

The 24th of December 2008 is when it will ship, so if you're importing you probably won't see it this side of Christmas. They've also announced that the Limited Edition will be based on quantity, not time. So if you want to make sure you get your Limited Edition copy, make sure you order now.

More information about pre-ordering the OST on the site.

Do you know how certain games on the PS3 perform a data install so that load times are drastically reduced? Well, it looks like that same feature will be making it's way onto the PSP via Dissidia, Square Enix's new Final Fantasy themed fighter.

PSPHyper.com is reporting that PSP owners will have the choice of installing the data in 245Mb, 373Mb or 528Mb amounts depending on their need for quicker loading times and the size of their memory stick. Now, one might see this as bad due to the amount of memory stick space players are using up, on the other hand, this may be a great step forward for the PSP to help diminish what used to be some pretty insane loading times.
Famitsu published a list of Japan's most anticipated games and Square Enix had a staggering 9 games from the list which had 15 titles.

What's even more interesting is that two of the titles are appearing on the 360 (Star Ocean 4 and The Last Remnant), but even though the Xbox 360 still doesn't hold much weight in Japan, it seems to peaking interest finally.
