Usually boxes for Final Fantasy games in Japan are minimalist affairs consisting of only the logo on a white background, but Dissidia: Universal Tuning is a bit special because it's an FF crossover title and it's an all new, improved version of the game.

Square Enix has given it new boxart to match, showing off all the FF heroes in CG glory.

Dissidia Universal Tuning is a new version of Dissidia that includes changes and improvements made to the game for its US release as well as more Japan-exclusive changes.

Square Enix is confident that Dissidia Final Fantasy will outperform all of the series' previous entries on PSP.

The upcoming beat-'em-up has already met success in Japan, and now the publisher is sure it will set new records in the UK, surpassing that of its predecessors such as the 2008 smash hit, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.

"Crisis Core was the PSP's summertime smash for last year. Thanks to Dissidia's strength of narrative and solid fighting mechanics, it manages to remain essential to the Final Fantasy hardcore whilst still becoming the definitive beat-'em-up for PSP," Square sales director Doug Bone told MCV.

E3 2008 was massive for Square Enix. They didn't announce any new games, or wow anyone with new trailers for their highly anticipated games. However, they did drop the bomb that Final Fantasy XIII would no longer be exclusive to the PlayStation 3, as it would also be appearing on the Xbox 360.

Since then, support for Square Enix has dropped considerably, and not just amongst loyal Sony supporters. Consistent rumours about Final Fantasy XIII delays and the game's production values, as well as other reports about the company have tarnished Square Enix's reputation in the West. 1UP: "Despite a hidden ending that hints at a sequel and Japanese sales inching up on that magical million, perennial Square Enix It Boy Tetsuya Nomura has flatly denied that a second Dissidia is in development.

At the end of a lengthy interview in the 704-page Dissidia Ultimania strategy guide, released yesterday, Nomura states: "There are no current plans for a sequel. To be honest, I wanted to do one up until a few months ago. I even called [Mitsunori] Takahashi, the planning director, and [Ryuji] Ikeda, the lead programmer, to talk about sequel concepts -- I told them to think about what they were going to do and prepare themselves [to make a sequel]. However, circumstances inside the company wiped that idea out... to actually make [a sequel] happen would be very difficult given the situation."

PSP Hyper reports that videogame retailer blog Sinobi reports that 350,000 copies of Dissidia Final Fantasy were sold last Thursday, when the game went on sale in Japan. The number include the super nice 20th Anniversary Limited Pack that come with a special edition PSP, which is around 40,000 units according to Sinobi. It worth noting that Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII also did 350,000 copies on its first day and went on to sell almost 490,000 copies in its first week. Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G still has the best first day for a PSP game when it sold 670,000 copies earlier this year (MHP 2nd is second with 512,000).

Dissidia: Final Fantasy Soundtrack Release Date Confirmed (News)

A few days ago Final Fantasy Union mentioned some details that had surfaced as a rumour regarding the Dissidia: Final Fantasy OST. Well, now Sony had addded it to their website for purchase and the release date remains the same.

The 24th of December 2008 is when it will ship, so if you're importing you probably won't see it this side of Christmas. They've also announced that the Limited Edition will be based on quantity, not time. So if you want to make sure you get your Limited Edition copy, make sure you order now.

Dissidia To Feature Data Install (News)

Do you know how certain games on the PS3 perform a data install so that load times are drastically reduced? Well, it looks like that same feature will be making it's way onto the PSP via Dissidia, Square Enix's new Final Fantasy themed fighter.

PSPHyper.com is reporting that PSP owners will have the choice of installing the data in 245Mb, 373Mb or 528Mb amounts depending on their need for quicker loading times and the size of their memory stick. Now, one might see this as bad due to the amount of memory stick space players are using up, on the other hand, this may be a great step forward for the PSP to help diminish what used to be some pretty insane loading times.

Square Enix Still Popular In Japan (News)

Despite all the negative press that Square Enix have been getting from fans on Western Shores, Japanese gamers don't really seem anywhere near as concerned. Famitsu published a list of Japan's most anticipated games and Square Enix had a staggering 9 games from the list which had 15 titles.

What's even more interesting is that two of the titles are appearing on the 360 (Star Ocean 4 and The Last Remnant), but even though the Xbox 360 still doesn't hold much weight in Japan, it seems to peaking interest finally.

Summons Confirmed For Dissidia: Final Fantasy (News)

A new update to the official Final Fantasy Dissidia website has revealed that Summons will be in the game. In the example placed on the site, the video shows Ifrit and explains how they will be used in conjunction with the current battle system.
