Atari Classics Evolved

Kotaku writes; Atari? Strong brand name. Infogrames? Um, yeah. No wonder Infogrames want to switch its corporate identity to the company Nolan Bushnell founded and made famous.

The Stock Masters - Frank Lara Jr, December 14th, 2007: Atari was King in the early 1980's but now with debt and lack of new creative game titles, shares stand at $1.66. Every Game Company stock has been making news and cashing in: Activision, Midway, Take-Two, Nintendo, and even Microsoft. So why can't the original game maker come back to life? How is it that even late comer Bill Gates and Co. can throw a new game system and make Master Chief more popular than Harry Pitfall? The Stock Masters on why Atari is a worthless nobody and has no hit, no money, and no love from Wall Street.

Nintendo, which has been historically criticised for not providing enough software for its platforms, emerges as the clear winner this week ¿ at least in terms of quantity. Specficially, American gamers get to choose between eight DS titles over the next five days, including the likes of Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2008 and Pocket Pets. Also, a quintet of Wii releases are available through Friday, which includes the towering arrival of Godzilla Unleashed and Myth Makers: Super Kart GP.

Atari will bring 11 updated classics, including Asteroids, Super Breakout and Pong, to the PlayStation Portable this fall with Atari Classics Evolved. The games will boast their original gameplay, but sport beautifully rendered up-to-date graphics, according to today's announcement. In addition to the graphically evolved versions, each of the titles will be presented in their original form. See the list after the break.
