Wipeout HD "Ad Update" Affects Graphics, Gameplay? (News)

PSXextreme: We're used to seeing advertisements in games these days and while it usually involves little more than a simple billboard or a strategically placed vending machine, there are times when it's a bit more - shall we say - in your face. However, it's a much bigger issue if these ads are actually having a negative impact on the gameplay: it seems a new patch has arrived for Wipeout HD; known as update 2.10, we didn't hear much in the way of details, but we know it tossed advertisements into the game and the hardcore fans are none too happy about this "update."

In-game ad house Double Fusion has brought dynamic, in-game video advertising to the PlayStation 3 game Wipeout HD across North America and Europe, the company said Monday.

Double Fusion said it will inject advertising that will complement the hover-racer's futuristic presentation. The new video ads have yet to launch, but Double Fusion CEO Jonathan Epstein said certain unnamed advertisers have already signed up for placements in Wipeout HD. Ads will be shown during the game's loading screens, Double Fusion said.

The company added that the video ads would be "the highest definition" available in-game, and the game will also have supplemental ads that are standard definition.

How to fix?
Before you start the game just sign out from the PlayStation Network. When you do this and you start the game, this time you will get trought the loading screen. When the game is started up, you can press the PS button to sign in to the PSN again.

WipEout HD is hard. If you've played the game, you probably know that and, if the newest patch is anything to go by, the developers at Studio Liverpool have also realized this. Updating the game to version 1.20, which will happen as soon as you start the game, will make getting medals in campaign mode a lot easier. You can now change the difficulty setting within campaign mode to novice, skilled or elite, just like in other modes. This changes the medal requirements, making completing the game a much simpler experience.

Sony have today release the version 1.1 patch for Wipeout HD which fixes issues that users were having when signing into the network.

Since the game was released users with more than 50 friends had been experiencing a complete system freeze when logged into their profile and attempting to play the gaming, the only fix until now was to sign out of your profile and then play offline. Thankfully the new patch has resolved these issues, so there should be a lot more people playing online from now on.

Today Playfire launched a major update to the PF trophy system. We've overhauled the profile page trophy module significantly. It now functions like an overview and takes up way less profile page space. To do this we've moved all the trophies listed here previously to a brand new trophy cabinet page (but more on that later Wink). In the new module you can find cool stats like your percentage complete for your games and your leaderboard rank (dun dun dah!) plus lots of other cool stats about your trophies.

Click on the cabinet link or on a game title will take you to the new trophy cabinet I mentioned a second ago. It's basically a way to view yours and others hard earned trophies. We felt trophies were pretty important so we dedicated a whole page to them which we even styled like the XMB trophy system with a fully functioning, animated progress bar! PS3 Vault has some possible helpful tips in order to prevent Wipeout HD crashing on your PS3.

1. Sort out your buddy list – It usually works if you have 50 friends or less.
2. Then delete both the "Wipeout game" game file plus the system key * Found in system data* .
3. Go to your download list, and then install the "Full Game Key" (100kb) File first.
4. Download "Wipeout hd" file.
5. After completion, install the game then, turn your Playstation 3 system off at the back of the console.
6. Disable the screensaver option, Found in settings, on the Playstation 3 XMB.

How to put it on Ps3 :

1. Unzip the package
Unzip the package on a USB key. Select "Extract Here" if you can. There should be 2 folders in your jumpdrive's root directory, "MUSIC" and "PICTURE".
2. Plug it in your PS3 to copy files
Plug this drive into your PS3, and go to the Picture icon in the XMB, select the Jumpdrive and you can download the album art to your PS3. Go to the Music icon in the XMB, select the Jumpdrive and you will see G.A.M.E. 3.0. Hit Triangle button and select "Copy", it will be copied to your PS3 Hard Drive.
3. Create a new Playlist
Then go to Playlists and select "Create New Playlist". Name it "G.A.M.E. 3.0". Select that playlist, hit Triangle Button and select "edit". You can now add all the G.A.M.E. 3.0 tracks into the playlist in any order you like.

CVG writes: "After we revealed the reason behind the WipEout HD delay was that it failed "the epilepsy tests so much that it has to be re-engineered" and Sony's eventual response that it takes "consumer safety very seriously", the game is finally upon us.

We've played the review code to death that Sony passed along a while ago but we've now got WipEout HD installed on our PS3s at home via PSN. One thing we noticed though was a very serious health warning that you confirm you've read by pressing 'X' on the pad:

"Always play in a well lit environment. Take regular breaks, 15 minutes every hour. Discontinue playing if you experience dizziness, nausea, fatigue or have a headache.

"Some individuals are sensitive to flashing or flickering lights or geometric shapes and patterns, may have an undetected epileptic condition man may experience epileptic seizures when watching television or playing videogames.

"Consult your doctor before playing videogames if you have an epileptic condition and immediately should you experience any of the following symptoms whilst playing; altered vision, muscle twitching, other involuntary movement, loss of awareness, confusion and / or convulsions."

From GIBiz: Sony's Liverpool studio has spoken out for the first time on the problems caused by WipEout HD's failure of a routine epilepsy test.

Chatting to our sister site Eurogamer.net at the Leipzig Games Convention last month, game director Tony Buckley revealed the headaches arising from the eleventh hour hitch. The game was being readied for release back in July, but there was what SCEE boss David Reeves described as a "specific technical problem" - later established to be issues that came up during the epilepsy screening procedure.

"[It was] frustrating more than anything, because it's quite subjective the whole test," said Buckley.

SCE Liverpool's downloadable hovercraft racer Wipeout HD will cost $19.99 when it arrives on PlayStation 3 later this year, producer Daimion Pinnock has confirmed.

"It's going to be $19.99," he told Shacknews. Essentially a "best-of," the game features 16 tracks culled from the franchise's various titles.

Pinnock also spoke on title's recent delay, rumored to be triggered by epilepsy concerns. While he did not address the supposed epilepsy issue, the producer stressed the importance of smooth online play and trophy support.

After a months-long delay supposedly caused by failing seizure tests, it seems like WipEout HD is finally ready to debut on the PSN. The long-awaited HD follow-up to the PSP games, WipEout Pure and WipEout Pulse have many excited. One quick look at the game reveals exactly why: it is gorgeous, fast and absolutely breathtaking. Sony has issued a response after we learned that the silent delay of PSN title WipEout HD was due to it failing epilepsy tests.

CVG was told on Tuesday this week that WipEout "fails the epilepsy tests so much that it has to be re-engineered," hence the game's absence from E3, despite us having had what appears to be a near complete version for AGES.

Sony has neither confirmed or denied the report, only saying CVG: "Regarding the speculation about health issues, we can assure you that we take consumer safety very seriously and monitor it very carefully."

Videogamer reports that Colic Berry, Lead Designer at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's Liverpool studio has confirmed plans to offer additional content for the upcoming WipEout HD for PSN.

"We are still deciding exactly what downloadable content we will release for HD, but hopefully we will be releasing additional tracks which could include a mixture of old tracks and brand new ones," said Berry. "Additional ships and music are also on the list of downloadable content we hope to release."

This content won't stop there though, with Berry also discussing the possibility of introducing new game modes.

Theres only one thing sonyrumors love more then HD and thats Wipeout in HD. They have played the series since its PlayStation launch, now over 10 years ago. So here comes Wipeout HD with a butt load of new features, including 1080p 60fps, Online 8 player mode and now, custom soundtrack.

The WipEout series has always had excellent soundtracks and WipEout HD promises to be no exception. Sony has today revealed the full music list for the game, along with a plethora of other details, most of which we've seen before. The full soundtrack for the game is as follows:

Sony Computer Entertainment America released a new fact sheet today on the upcoming, PSN racer WipEout HD.

In a laundry list of both new and old features, Sony wrote about the inclusion of eight teams from WipEout Pulse (Feisar, Assegai, AG-Systems, Qirex, Piranha, Triakis, Goteki45 and EG-X), pilot assist, five race modes (Single Race, Tournament, Time Trial, Speed Lap and Zone Mode), downloadable content (extra teams, ships, tracks and events for the race campaign), score posting, and custom playlists.

Andrew Yoon from Joystiq.com's PS3fanboy talks about the upcoming PS3 title 'Wipeout HD':

Did you hear that thud? That's the sound of our jaws accelerating to the floor, smashing into a million tiny pieces. New images of Wipeout HD have surfaced at PlayFrance, and they look absolutely stunning.

What makes this more impressive is that all of these images will be running in full 1080p HD resolution, and at a silky smooth 60fps. That's almost unheard of in this generation of games. Imagine how exhilarating it will be to race these stunning tracks with Wipeout's trademark sense of speed.

The French interview also reveals a few other interesting tidbits. Development of the game started less than a year ago, with a team of only six people. The team has grown to about 30 people now, with 3 of them having worked on the original PS1 Wipeout so many years ago. Although the game is just an HD version of the PSP games, the reworked textures and graphics will make it feel like a completely different experience. Also, expect licensed music from Kraftwerk, Mason, DJ Fresh and Stanton Warriors to return -- this time in glorious 5.1 surround sound. We can't wait for more.

Things will get off to a good start in 2008 for PlayStation gamers, as Sony confirms a promising Q1/Q2 launch line-up.

The list from Sony US puts Gran Turismo 5 Prologue on track for a Q1 release in the States, while the silky-smooth WipEout HD is pencilled in for a more vague "early 08" release.

Sony UK, however, has told CVG that GT5 Prologue will also hit UK PS3s in Q1, while placing WipEout HD at a slightly more specific Q2 release.

Sony has revealed a ton of details about their Wipeout "best of" compilation coming to the PlayStation Network later this year. Some of the features include:

Sony plans to release an HD iteration of PSP game Wipeout Pulse for PS3 before the end of the year, an internet report states. According to 1UP.com, the HD Wipeout game will release via PlayStation Network.
