WET

How wet will Wet make you get?

Lady assassin game measured for moistness

When relaying states of personal excitement, a lot of game journalists like to talk in terms of wetness. Like: "This game looks so awesome it made me wet". We do our best to avoid such analogies on GamesRadar. However, when Bethesda showed us Wet recently we thought we'd get into the spirit of things by measuring how 'wet' we got through the duration of the demo. So, FYI, here's a breakdown of how wet all the bits of Wet made us get.

Note: Wet doesn't have anything to do with actual liquid wetness. It's mostly about a hot assassinette that likes jumping about and killing bad guys. Wet is scheduled for release on PS3 and 360, Fall 2009.

Wet heroine and ultimate fantasy woman. Hot. Sexy. Strong. Good with weapons. Is flexible. Wears tattoos. One of her favourite things is killing bad men. We saw her torch a guy doused in gasoline without so much as batting one of her perfectly textured lashes. She's a badass with a nice ass.

Check her out:

Much to our dismay, Bethesda did go to great lengths to explain that Rubi isn't some cynical sexy gimmick. She won't be objectified or exploited for the sake of mere titillation or juvenile thrills. So there's not going to be any bikini costume changes or naughty spank-her-bottom mini-games. Shame.

How wet did we get? Some involuntary salivation and subsequent build-up of mouth fluids.

There's lots and lots of this. The pistols Rubi dual-wields have an infinite supply of ammo and never ever need reloading. So you can just keep killing men with gay abandon for as long as there are men on the screen that need killing. Other weapons will include shotguns, sub-machine guns and a crossbow that fires exploding rounds. These will all have a finite supply of munitions.

And then there's Rubi's big sword. Ideal for slicing off limbs and sticking through guts when the fighting gets a little more intimate and cosy.

Prolonged bouts of linked together killing is rewarded with points and style multipliers. Points can be used to upgrade weapons, but definitely won't be used to buy Rubi an alternate bikini costume. We'll say it again. Shame.

How wet did we get? A cold clamminess on the palms of our hands. Killing always makes our hands clammy.

It's been around a bit, but we still love us some bullet time. And Wet looks like one big huge slow-motion orgy of fancy-looking killing. Rubi does a lot of running up walls, back-flipping, sliding about on her knees and so on. And every time she engages in some wild act of acrobatica, slow-mo automatically kicks in.

Better still, there's no limit to how long it can be activated for. The motion will stay slow for as long as Rubi keeps chaining moves together. And when moving in the manner of diminished velocity, Rubi can also target two enemies simultaneously with her pistols. Half the speed. Double the kill.

How wet did we get? A noticeable lubrication behind the knees.

One section involved Rubi jumping between moving cars while in pursuit of a man in a suit that had stolen her handbag or something. Predictably, this was a QTE bit. So it looked great and exciting with cars flipping over and sparks flying everywhere and crashes and near misses. But it was still just the QTE bit, so regardless of how cinematic and action-packed it looks, we're sure it'll play just as mechanically as most other predictable QTE bits in other games.

How wet did we get? Not wet. Dry.

Honestly, this looks very run of the mill. Bethesda needs to stick to RPG's because their Star Trek game wasn't that good either.

This looks shite. Bethesda should be making the next Elder Scrolls game not run of the mill action games with moist gusset undertones.

It sounds like just another stress releasing killing game Bethesda should just stick to their guns

Alot of you ignorant kids seem to not understand something here- Bethesda is PUBLISHING this game, they haven't developed shit for it...
Elbo444  - 6 months 28 days ago
the main Wet page says it's published and developed by Sierra... but the article says it was shown by Bethesda... I'm confused

I really like the article though, even if the game seems like it will be mediocre

For once...I mean...just for once...Can we have a female game character who's NOT a sex object? Can we have a normal pretty girl wearing normal active clothing? Why Marcus Fenix can wear those heavey gears, we girls have to wear bikini (or something alone that line)?

I know sex sells, but sex is not the only thing that sells. Good action, clever level design, great storyline, solid character buidling also sells, and they sells better in the long run.

@ flourine: No way! whats the fun in a video game with a female if she isen't wearing a Bikini. The reason game devolopers do that is becouse thats what sells, the only game to do have a female without showing her body is Samus from Metroid but even at the end of the game they showed her in a bikini
fluorine  - 6 months 27 days ago
to RooringRA: LOL, I know I know...E cup in bikini give a bit of healthy shake, there you have it, that alone can sell any game (dead or alive beach volleyball, anyone?)
EcoEclipse  - 6 months 27 days ago
(Responding to Fluorine's original comment.) Did you not read this article? They made it clear that Rubi is not meant as a sex object. So yes, just once we did get a female game character that is not a sex object. (Although by saying "female game character," well, there's a lot of those. Maybe "female protagonist" would have been a better choice of words.

@fluorine's original comment: I know someone's gonna say it, so I guess I will: Portal.

And, like EcoEclipse said, they made it pretty clear that Rubi won't be used as a sex object. How about reading the article before you complain about it next time, eh?

the bethesda thing almost got me too. until about 5 minutes ago i didn't realize bethesda was also a publisher; i had a moment of hope for this game. unfortunately the developer's credits all seem to be licenced crap (and not even ps3/360 level licenced crap) so i'm not going to expect anything close to decent. but who am i to judge a game that isn't even out yet.

also elbo444, it seems that bethesda is publishing it in japan and na and sierra is publishing it in europe

yeah, it seems like this one really isn't bringing anything new to the table. and what is the deal with the unlimited ammo and no reloading??
iluvmyDS  - 6 months 27 days ago
I am tired of these damn bullet time obsessed third person action games. They should become what World War II games were, something you make fun of for the sheer volume of them. I am sick and angry of this bs.

1, Portal IS a great game with a female "protagonist" that doesn't posed as any sex object. And for that, I admit, I was wrong.

2, I did read the article, and yes, the designer said Rubi is not supposed to be a sex object. But the thing is, if sex appeal doesn't play a role here, why call it "wet" in the first place? Why show her in a tub? I guess using the bikini analysis is a bit misleading, and that's my fault. I used it simply to make a point, that we don't really bring out a true female "protagonist" that we female gamers can relate to.

The closest female characters I can think of is April in Longest Journey and Zeo in the sequel dream fall. Those are "normal" girls, that really don't play with the concept of sex appeal. And for that matter, I also really like Anya in Gears of War, although she's playing the usual female stereotype. I want to see someone like her be the main character. A woman designed for women, not a woman designed for men.

But...You guys are correct in one thing, it is way to early to make the judgement, and it is my fault to jump to conclusion, simply because the title is annoying (for me). Maybe she's like Joanna Dark, maybe she really has a personality, even some depth...who knows.

First off I gotta say I'm not terrible excited about this game because it seems to be a massive ripoff of all kinds of games such as Stranglehold. But thats ok, if it turns out to be a better looking Stranglehold, I'll play it anyway.

Next I'd like to point out to flourine that "'normal' girls" don't really do it for a game. Just like you don't really ever see any "normal" guys as the main character of any game. You hear alot of reviews claiming that your just an everyday average joe that happened to crash into the ocean (bioshock) but really there's nothing normal there cuz you still kick the bleeding shit outta everyone you see.

Normal doesn't sell. Normal is boring. Sex isn't needed to sell in theory but since a girl protaganist basically needs to be super amazing... sexyness is a bi-product.

Guy characters tend to super-freaking durable and rough around the edges and super-macho. Girls are freakishly acrobatic, tough and... well sexy. And that's how it should be.

Unless you're into dykes.
