Without warning, like the shadowy figures known only through whispers in the night, Ninja Gaiden Sigma has made its presence known on the PlayStation Store. The demo will be available today in the US, one day prior to its Japanese release, alongside a demo for Virtua Tennis.

Also coming out today are trailers for Gauntlet II, The Wheelman, John Woo's Stranglehold and The Godfather. The full version of Ninja Gaiden Sigma is set for a June release (on disc).

Sega put another dagger in the PlayStation 3 this week revealing that Virtua Tennis fans looking for the best experience in the next generation will find that only on the Xbox 360.

The company said that Virtua Tennis 3 would be the first Xbox 360 game playable in 1080p - so-called Full HD. The game was already revealed to be one of the first 1080p games on the PS3.

A bigger blow is that only Xbox 360 players will be able to take Virtua Tennis 3 online. While PS3 owners will have to settle for playing in their homes only, Xbox 360 owners will find a full Xbox Live experience including singles and doubles ranked and unranked matches.

Also exclusive to the Xbox 360 is VT: TV - an online spectator mode where you can watch other players duke it out.

According to a Finnish website, the PS3 version of Virtua Tennis 3 will not feature an online mode. Apparently, Producer Mie Kumagai from Sega said that Sony has not delivered the necessary information about their online network to make coding the online mode possible. The "holy grail of full HD" is confirmed for Sega's PS3 tennis title. At its press event in Tokyo yesterday, Sega revealed, or rather boasted, that Virtua Tennis 3 runs in 1080p on the PS3. Displaying the game on slick HD sets with 1080p placards next to them, it looked absolutely glorious in high-res.

This makes Virtua Tennis 3 the second PS3 title confirmed to run in 1080p, next to Gran Turismo HD, and demonstrates that third party publishers are able to achieve what's been dubbed the holy grail of full HD on PS3. Sony has touted the PS3's ability to render 1080p images as a large benefit over the Xbox 360, which is incapable of generating them at such a resolution.
