Australians still haven't been told exactly when in March the PlayStation 3 is set to launch, but at least local gamers are beginning to get a firm idea of exactly what games can be expected. Sony Computer Entertainment Australia (SCEA) has now confirmed five of its titles will be there from the PS3's first day of sale, bringing the expected number of launch games to 17.

SEGA said in a press release today that their Virtua Fighter 5 will be available to PlayStation 3 owners on Feb. 20.
When a company announces a release date of Spring, you normally imagine something like March, or maybe May at the latest. But in the case of Virtua Fighter 5, Spring has ended up meaning February 8. Not that we should complain--nothing will warm up our cold winter rooms more than a few hours of Virtua Fighter 5 on the PS3. The game will retail for 8190 yen ($70), slightly more expensive than the two Virtua Fighter 4 games which sold for 7140 yen each on the PS2. Preorders of the game will come with Virtua Fighter 10th Anniversary Reprint. This is the disc that originally came with Enterbrain's Virtua Fighter 10th Anniversary book back in 2003, and is a version of the original Virtua Fighter game, using the system from Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution.

The Virtua Fighter 5 joystick looks like the best controller the PS3 has going for it, but how does it play? Pretty damn good. Combined with the actual game, the joystick-plus-Virtua Fighter combo is some of the closest arcade punch console gaming has seen.
