It seems like forever since we ran a 'gratuitous boobs' story on the Play blog (although we know for a fact that it hasn't really been that long at all) so here's one featuring the PS3's favourite women in uniform out of uniform. Yes, as is to be revealed in a special feature on the Valkyria anime DVD (Japan only at the moment, sorry) when they're not defending Gallia from imperial invasion, the ladies of Squad 7 like nothing better than to unwind at the beach in swimwear that wouldn't have been considered fashionable, much less decent, in 1935 in this version of reality.

From Siliconera: Edie's Squad Challenge comes with six challenges to complete. Each mission plays like a mini Valkyria Chronicles test.

You take out tanks in one challenge and sneak into an enemy base in another. Out of all the events I'm most interested in the sniper mode which has players test their aiming skills. Here's a quick list of the soldier roles Edie's Squad Challenge evaluates: assault, sniper, anti-tank unit, support, tank, and scout.

Edie's Squad Challenge comes out in Japan on June 23 and it's only 300 yen ($3).

The upcoming anime based on PS3 exclusive Valkyria Chronicles looks great. Those who live in Japan could win a chance to see it a few weeks early.

On March 28, a "premium event" is being held for the anime in Tokyo. The first episode will be screened, and there will also be a talk with the anime's staff and voice talent. Those hoping to attend fill out this form by March 16. Winners will be drawn by lottery.

No official word from Media Molecule or Sony, but some curious screenshots have popped up on 4chan that seem to show Valkyria Chronicles costumes for LittleBigPlanet. Could this be signs of the DLC to come once the regular LBP PSN updates resume on January 22?

Coincidentally, SEGA has updated their blog with information on upcoming Valkyria Chronicles DLC: "Soon we'll be announcing a date for the first batch of Valkyria Chronicles downloadable content"

It would make sense for the costumes to hit LBP in conjunction with the new DLC pack for SEGA's game to boost sales.

TheSixthAxis get their hands on Valkyria Chronicles: "The game comes with an optional 4GB install (but the load times off the disk are fine) if you want it, and it's straight into the story, which is divided up into chapters and episodes, some of which are cut-scenes and some are the battle sequences. Sega sent over a friendly reminder that Valkyria Chronicles has an official release date. We'll get a chance to pick up in English on November 11. Spencer of Siliconera spoke with Christopher Kaminski, Associate Producer of Valkyria Chronicles, to find out if the downloadble content recently released in Japan would find its way to North America. He replied with, "No comment yet." Kaminski confirmed the content will not be on the retail disc though when he answered Spencer's follow up question with, "No, that content won't be on the disc." Valkyria Chronicles won't have any localization differences either. "We translated it directly. We wanted to stay true to the original. As a matter of fact we keep the original Japanese in there."

PS3 Fanboy writes: Sega has a pretty big list of games in production. Their espionage title, Alpha Protocol, was recently slapped with a February 2009 release date. That means it's going up against Killzone 2. Their other high-profile title, Valkyria Chronicles, got a release date of November 2008.

Optional Hard Disk Install For Valkyria Chronicles (News)

According to Impress Watch, Valkyria offer players the option for a hard disk install. The install takes up 3,336 MB and apparently cuts down load times from the 15 second waits players would otherwise have to sit through when opting to play directly from disc.

As with last month's Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan install, this install is strictly optional, so those who can't find enough space on their hard disk will still be able to play.

According to a Japanese developer blog the game Valkyria Chronicles was originally planned as an Xbox 360 exclusive game. When the game was announced however, development had already switched to the Playstation 3 platform. According to publisher SEGA the game has been in development for over three years, and had switched platform early on in development. The exact reason why the developer switched to Playstation 3 was not mentioned.

Valkyria Chronicles is currently slated to hit store shelves this Fall exclusively on Playstation 3.

Valkyria Chronicles is set to release exclusively on the PS3 in Japan in late April, and the folks at SEGA of America and SEGA Europe are expecting such a positive response, they've slated to have it hit stateside and across the pond sometime this autumn.

Samba for summer, Condemned late March (News)

SEGA is currently targeting 28th March for the release of Condemned 2: Bloodshot on PS3 and 360, and has also updated dates for Samba de Amigo on Wii and others.

Samba de Amigo will be out in summer, the publisher told Eurogamer. In the meantime, Brain Assist DS is due on 14th March, with Happy Tree Friends due for PC and 360 in summer.

SEGA Superstars Tennis, as reported recently, is down for 20th March on several formats including 360 and Wii, with Viking: Battle for Asgard PS3/360 and SEGA Bass Fishing and House of the Dead II & III Return for Wii on 28th March.

Valkyria Chronicles is due for PS3 this summer also.
