It looks like October 9th is shaping up to be a great week for the PSN. This week we are getting the HUGELY anticipated LingerInShadows. We also will be getting the game with the coolest name… Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars, which will be releasing with in-game music, and trophy support. Megaman 9 fans will be pleased to know that the Protoman DLC will be out this week. Also don't forget to download the Valkyria Chronicles Demo.
We expect to see some new trailers from many of the newly announced PS3, and PSP games from this year's Tokyo Game Show!
Last week we were pleasantly surprised by the addition of Eternal Sonata Demo, so this week we have our fingers crossed for some other great surprises popping up in the PS Store.

Sega has just recently announced a new video of Valkyria Chronicles as well as (the more exciting news) a playable demo coming to Qore on October 9th. This is fantastic news for those of us who are anticipating the game and just aren't patient enough for the full release. Sega sent over a friendly reminder that Valkyria Chronicles has an official release date. We'll get a chance to pick up in English on November 11. Spencer of Siliconera spoke with Christopher Kaminski, Associate Producer of Valkyria Chronicles, to find out if the downloadble content recently released in Japan would find its way to North America. He replied with, "No comment yet." Kaminski confirmed the content will not be on the retail disc though when he answered Spencer's follow up question with, "No, that content won't be on the disc." Valkyria Chronicles won't have any localization differences either. "We translated it directly. We wanted to stay true to the original. As a matter of fact we keep the original Japanese in there."» Read More

Destructoid writes: "Valkyria's story focuses on Welkin, a soldier in the Federation's 7th infantry platoon that is working to keep the small country of Gallia safe from an invading Empire. There will be over 100 customizable characters that can join Welkin's force, and, thanks to the BLiTZ tactical battle system, you can control their real-time actions in addition to issuing standard tactical commands.
So it's a real-time tactical RPG? Sounds good to me. I just hope it doesn't have the same camera problems that Operation Darkness did. Valkyria Chronicles will be coming to the PS3 sometime this fall. And, according to Sony's press conference, there will also be a version coming to the PlayStation Portable, but there's no release date for that yet."

"Valkyria Chronicles will have in early August a series of downloadable content, through an update that will just integrate those bonus in the game. Priced 300 yens (less than 2 euros), the Hard EX Mode will permit you to play nine battles in Free Battle mode in a very high mode of difficulty, even more than the original game, which is not nothing.
A new episode priced 600 yen (3.5 euros) will introduce a new character with bunches, Edie, and her battalion. A new scenario for all those who wish to extend this tactic mixing action-RPG and strategy experience. It is not known at this time if the arrival of this content is also planned at the release of the game in Europe, scheduled for next fall."

According to Impress Watch, Valkyria offer players the option for a hard disk install. The install takes up 3,336 MB and apparently cuts down load times from the 15 second waits players would otherwise have to sit through when opting to play directly from disc.
As with last month's Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan install, this install is strictly optional, so those who can't find enough space on their hard disk will still be able to play.

Valkyria Chronicles
According to a Japanese developer blog the game Valkyria Chronicles was originally planned as an Xbox 360 exclusive game. When the game was announced however, development had already switched to the Playstation 3 platform. According to publisher SEGA the game has been in development for over three years, and had switched platform early on in development. The exact reason why the developer switched to Playstation 3 was not mentioned.
Valkyria Chronicles is currently slated to hit store shelves this Fall exclusively on Playstation 3.
