Epic has released the first official map pack for Unreal Tournament 3 on PS3.
Those of you in the US will be able to download the 82MB bundle from the PlayStation Store today.
However, Sony is yet to update the European PSN, so its arrival here is as uncertain as cleaning a plug socket with a wet sponge.

Eurogamer writes: "Epic Games has popped a plaster over the bleeding bits of Unreal Tournament 3 on PS3.
The bulk of the healing was done to mods, so they should be easier to install and you can expect less errors. There should also be less problems with voice chat, and you will be able to see who is holding down the talk button to play Gunther songs.
The US version of the game has a much lengthier list of updates, but this is simply because it came out earlier - us Europeans had those fixes from launch."

One of the most anticipated UT3 features was the possibility of allowing PS3 gamers to import new community content/mods on their consoles. Epic has released an updated version of the tools to "cook" your own content, and transfer it from PC to PS3. This version is up to date for the newest PS3 patch released a few days ago, and requires the v1.2 PC patch installed.
Overview
Mod support for UT3 on PS3 is based on the PC toolset. There are no in-game mod tools that run on the PS3. However, this gives an incredible amount of freedom for people to make whatever they want (within reason, after all the PS3 has a limited amount of memory with no Virtual Memory).

Epic will unleash a huge bug-stomping patch for the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament III on March 27. As well as crushing a list of bugs and glitches as long as your arm, it will make the Euro and US versions of the game cross compatible on the online multiplayer side. Publisher and developer Midway has released the results of its holiday quarter and full year, showing Q4 sales falling to $77.6 million, and losses rising considerably from $2 million in 2006 to $29.7 million, with execs saying the company has "overcome many of [its] technology hurdles" for a "smoother" 2008.
The company did trumpet the achievement of its Epic co-release of Unreal Tournament 3 for PC and PlayStation 3, which it notes has shipped over a million copies worldwide, and took home a number of awards, as did its The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar.

In an interview with Joystiq, Epic Games' VP Mark Rein told them that there's no progress with Microsoft on making UT3 mods work with Xbox Live. One would think Microsoft would be more open to community content given the recent Xbox Live Community announcement, but Rein noted that the system is different. Rein said the Xbox 360 version has no set release date.
Conversely, Rein did acknowledge the current PS3 mod system is less than stellar and told Joystiq to expect improvements coming soon.

Midway has confirmed to Eurogamer that Unreal Tournament 3 on PlayStation 3 will be out here on 22nd February. It will join the PC version that launched in November 2007, and do clever things like work with mods designed by the desktop community sitting jovially behind their command centres.
No level editor is included in the console offering, but those of you with PCs can build stuff and port it across, or just download other people's creations to a Memory Stick.
Tom was also full of praise when we got our hands on it at the end of last year, pointing it out as the new online FPS benchmark on PS3.

While it's not released publicly - not even to server admins yet - the guys at Epic are currently internally testing the first beta of Patch 2. The changelist is currently as follows:
Gameplay:
Increased UTGame MaxPlayersAllowed to 64.
Fixed leviathan turret instant refire exploit.
Fixed errant lock on warnings when no longer in vehicle.
Fixed first person weapons in demo playback.
Fixed translocator telefrag victim message.
Fixed encouragement sounds not being randomly picked by bots.
Implemented viewobjective spectating system for Warfare.
Fixed berserk held by driver applying to all vehicle turrets.
Only force low gore on German versions that were low gore only before being patched.

Epic Games plan to demonstrate the latest Unreal Engine 3 features at this year's Game Developers Conference next month. The presentation will run on the half hour for each day of the show.
The Epic folks will also be speaking at two sessions:
"Automating Regression Discovery: Finding the Wrenches in the GEARS OF WAR," will be presented by Martin Sweitzer, programmer, Epic Games. This intermediate-level lecture, to be held Wednesday, February 20, 12:00-12:30, in West Hall Room 3004, will be geared toward programmers, although production and management may also benefit from the talk.
"UNREAL TOURNAMENT 3 Postmortem: ULTRA KILL!" will be led by Dr. Michael Capps, president, and Jeff Morris, producer, Epic Games. This postmortem, to be held Friday, February 22, 2:30-3:00 p.m., in West Hall Room 2001/2003, will cater to all developers, regardless of experience.
