Luckily, Sony came up with the goods and demoed a brand-new level, set high in the Tibetan mountains. The level was called Heart Of Ice and saw protagonist Nathan Drake navigating his way up and then back down a huge mountain face.

With reports coming in that Microsoft will phase out its 60GB Pro model and reduce the price of the Elite unit to $299; Sony is going to have to step up and reduce the price of their console. TripleChat states that potential buyers everywhere should expect both the announcement of the PS3 Slim model as well as a price cut to go with it next week at Games Con.

Goldeneye on the Nintendo 64 rewarded players who completed goals with guns, cheats & special modes, while Spyro 2 on the original PlayStation rewarded players who unlocked 'Skill Points' with extra lives.

Nathan Drake, he who is famous for witty one-liners and the mystifying half-tuck, is headed to the big screen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Columbia is developing Naughty Dog's popular action adventure videogame Uncharted: Drake's Fortune into a feature film. Kyle Ward will be tasked with writing the script while Avi Arad, Charles Roven and Alex Gartner will be in charge of producing duties.

When questioned by CVG if Drake could ever be as big as Croft, Straley said, "Why, do you think he's not already there, if not beyond that point already, in terms of popularity?"

Which begs the question: why do we think Lara Croft is more popular than Nathan Drake? Let's look into this:

Lara Croft is big (no pun intended). She is no doubt one of video games' biggest icons. She is the star of a nine-game franchise, which has sold over 30 million total in its long history She was smokingly played by Angelina Jolie in two films. Oh, and she was named "Most Successful Human Video Game Heroine" by the Guiness Book of World Records in 2006.

Nathan Drake is, um, pretty huge too. He's starred in one game, that sold about 3 million copies. And, uh, that's about it.

The Hong Kong PlayStation Store website has a habit of featuring future LittleBigPlanet DLC before it is announced. The upcoming January 2009 DLC for LittleBigPlanet is no exception.

Now, those in the US had the opportunity to get the Kratos costume via pre-order and PSLS is not sure if we'd get the Pipo Monkey from the Ape Escape series... but they are indeed listed on the official PlayStation website for release on January 26, 2009.

Anyone else hopeful to get a God of War level pack similar to the MGS pack?

Today Playfire launched a major update to the PF trophy system. We've overhauled the profile page trophy module significantly. It now functions like an overview and takes up way less profile page space. To do this we've moved all the trophies listed here previously to a brand new trophy cabinet page (but more on that later Wink). In the new module you can find cool stats like your percentage complete for your games and your leaderboard rank (dun dun dah!) plus lots of other cool stats about your trophies.

Click on the cabinet link or on a game title will take you to the new trophy cabinet I mentioned a second ago. It's basically a way to view yours and others hard earned trophies. Joystiq's Randy Nelson writes: "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune developer Naughty Dog tells us that a patch to add PlayStation Trophy support to the game will be available by mid-August. Company co-president Evan Wells says that the update has already been submitted for quality assurance testing and could hit sooner.

According to Wells, the patch was "incredibly easy" to implement because the game already contains preliminary support for Trophies via its Medals reward system. He further revealed that these hooks were actually included because Naughty Dog thought Sony would roll out Trophies before Uncharted's November 2007 launch.

As with other PS3 titles getting retroactive Trophy support, Uncharted will require those who've already completed the game to play through again in order to unlock Trophies, even if they had previously earned every Medal. Wells says this is primarily to prevent people from simply using someone else's save data to artificially bolster their Trophy collection. Shame on you for even thinking about it."

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune didn't debut among the top ten software sales when it released, but six months later it's charting on Amazon's Bestseller's list thanks to being the Deal of the Day. It's not alone, either. The PS3 Blu-Ray remote is also rising the ranks thanks to its limited Lightning Deal status.

This is surprising because 8 of top 10 items are Wii related, which have dominated the Amazon list regularly. For now, Uncharted is finally getting some much deserved sales respect to equal its critical reception.

It turns out that the 'Strange Relic' treasure from Uncharted is actually a Precursor Orb from the Jak & Daxter universe. The orb has some unique markings on it that, when translated, say "Naughty Dog" and "Manmad".

A quick Google search will teach you that Manmad is a city in India, so perhaps that's where the next game will take place.

Drew Crecente of Kotaku writes: When I first read the words "Q Awards" I auto-magically thought of the late, great actor Desmond Llewelyn but was apparently way off track. These are Gamefly's version of the Oscars sans the cheesy dance routines.

Winners are determined by GameFly members, who according to the GameFly press release are the "... most discerning community of online video game renters." Unfortunately I'm not terribly discerning as I can be easily distracted by bright colors and flashing lights.

IGN writes: During a 58-minute presentation titled "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Post-Mortem: Amazing Feats of Daring," Naughty Dog Game Designer Richard Lemarchand dropped a megaton on the standing-room only audience.

Nathan Drake is based -- in part -- on Johnny Knoxville.

Okay, maybe that doesn't deserve the moniker of "megaton," but the fact that designers began basing Nathan on cynical, nice guy Knoxville when they couldn't get a handle on the in-game character was just one of many anecdotes Lemarchand shared during the presentation.

Obviously rumors will hit anything remotely successful, that means Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is no exception to that happening. As one of the most prolific games on the PlayStation 3, Drake left fans wanting an entirely new adventure as quick as possible.

Apparently, according to some news print, Uncharted 2 has been confirmed. Watch the video below and decide for yourself. Without an official announcement, it's hard to be anything but skeptical.

Ex-Naughty Dogs Form Steel Penny Games (News)

Next-Gen's Tom Ivan reports Naughty Dog veterans Jason Hughes and Andrew Gilmour have formed Austin, Texas-based Steel Penny Games, and are hard at work on the development of a WiiWare title

The company was organized in 2007, and the team has spent the past year building a proprietary engine geared toward the Wii platform's capabilities, and creating a new intellectual property which it hopes will span a series of games.

Set to focus initially on digitally distributed titles, Steel Penny's first release will be a WiiWare game in mid-2008. The company says the title "blends a challenging puzzle game with dramatic fantasy environments and appealing characters".

Gilmour, who has been working in the games industry for 20 years, was previously a senior background artist at Naughty Dog.

Game Critics Awards: "The judges of the Game Critics Awards are honored to announce the first annual Game of the Year awards. Considering games across all platforms, released commercially in North America between January 1, 2007 and December 31, 2007, the judges have voted to decide on the best of the best for the year.

To arrive at the top ten games of 2007, the judges applied a points system. Each judge nominated 10 games and awarded a score between 5 and 30 points to their chosen games, with a total point allotment of exactly 100. Sony has confirmed to Eurogamer what some of you have been arguing about in our forum - that the European version of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune doesn't support 1080i resolution after all.

"Naughty Dog only added it to the US version very late in the development process," Sony told Eurogamer. "Including this in the PAL version would have meant delaying the game's release as a result of QA testing each localised version again."

I asked all of the writers to submit a list of three games for each category and the three that showed up most in each category made it as a finalist. Once we had the list of finalists I asked each writer to go through and order the finalists and then tallied the vote. The one with the most points was named Game of the Year, the runner-up was named Not Quite Game of the Year. The game with the most votes for Worst Game of the Year received that dubious honor."

As our Andy noted back in November, it has been a fantastic year for games, In fact, it's arguably been the best year ever. However, all that bounty has left us in a dilemma. We originally planned a top ten list for the end of the year, but looking at the long list of titles we've been forced to expand that to twenty - and even then we've had to sacrifice a few of our darlings and lose a couple of still great franchise updates that we felt didn't quite do enough to justify inclusion: Sorry Unreal Tournament III and Sega Rally, apologies Guitar Hero III, Football Manager 2008 and Pro Evo.

Evan Wells has stated that there are no plans to release any downloadable content for Uncharted. When questioned as to whether any DLC was in the pipeline, Evan replied "We aren't planning any downloadable content for Uncharted, but we are planning to take advantage of whatever kind of integration into Home is possible".
