Uncharted: Drake's Fortune demo has been confirmed for early November. What has remained a mystery, however, is what level we will be playing. Reading through this article I found an interesting bit of information on the cinematics of the demo, which could confirm what level we will be playing. The article states that the demo will feature a cinematic clip of Nathan and Ellen parachuting onto the island after their plane is hit by flak. This would suggest that the demo will be the first level on the island.

We've all heard from the Playstation.blog (reported by IGN) that a demo for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is coming in November, but Palgn.com.au have tracked down Evan Wells to get even more exciting quotation - leading to an early November date. Ripten.com write:

Following previous rumours of an imminent demo for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune on PlayStation 3, it's been confirmed by developer Naughty Dog that a trial should be available next month, courtesy of the PlayStation Store.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has confirmed a selection of release dates for a number of forthcoming PlayStation 3 titles, including the likes of the highly anticipated Lair and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

First up for release, as confirmed last week, is The Eye of Judgment this Friday (October 26), followed by Factor 5's Lair and Insomniac's Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction on November 9.

Finally, December sees Naughty Dog's Uncharted: Drake's Fortune arriving on December 9, with the elusive SingStar PS3 pencilled for release for some time that month, though an exact date has yet to be revealed.

Next week, Sony Computer Entertainment America will be bringing its new PS3 brand campaign to TV. Unlike the initial "White Room" ads, these will focus on key titles and PS3 features. GameDaily Biz chat with Kim Ngyuen, SCEA Marketing Manager, about the new focus.

Kim Ngyuen says:

"We briefed the [ad] agency in April that we wanted to emphasize the entertainment qualities and show off the primary titles [for the PS3] this Holiday season," described Ngyuen when asked about how the campaign was initially envisioned. Things are hectic around our studio as we're trying to juggle several tasks at once. Not only are we trying to wrap up production on the game, but we're also working frantically on helping with the package design and the strategy guide as well. We've also scheduled one last impromptu focus test this weekend in our office so that we can check to make sure that any of the last minute tweaks we've made to certain aspects of the game haven't thrown off any of the previous game balance tuning that we've done.

(December 7th)Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells has said that Uncharted: Drake's Fortune will probably be released here in early December, with a demo due out before launch.

In answer to queries about the demo, he said: "Yes, we will be creating a downloadable demo for the PSN. We don't have a final date on when it will be up, but it will be before our release date." By that he presumably means the US release date of 20th November.

Wells also mentioned that the team had finished its last major round of focus testing on the game last week. Focus testing has been a staple of Naughty Dog games since Crash Bandicoot, he said, noting that the feedback from testing is used to help tune the difficulty of the game, among other things.

Evan Wells-Co-President, Naughty Dog: Hey there everybody! Wanted to let you know that we hit Beta on Sunday, September 16th! That's a huge milestone and it means we're one step closer to finishing Uncharted. The team really pulled together to help achieve this deadline and we couldn't be more excited about the progress we've made. Finally, most everything is in the game and we are just chasing down the last bugs and making a few minor balancing tweaks here and there.

We've had our last major focus test week last week too, and we received the data we need to make sure that the gameplay is finely tuned for our final release. This is a process that we take very seriously here at Naughty Dog and something we've been doing since the Crash Bandicoot days. We test the game over the course of a week and track a huge number of statistics from the types of weapons used, the amount of time spent in each area, and the number of times the players died. We then use this data to smooth out the difficulty and fix any puzzles or layouts that are too tricky to figure out. This will be the fourth time we do a full focus test like this and we are actually going to squeeze a final mini test in right before we Gold Master to make sure a bug didn't creep in to mess up our tuning.

It's also at this stage that a bunch of people in the office who have been so busy making the game, finally get a chance to sit down and play it. A lot of people have been so heads down that they are discovering areas in the game they'd never seen before. And because the cinematics are usually some of the last elements that go in, most people haven't really seen the story unfold in its entirety. Our own Naughty Dogs make great gameplay testers too!

So we have a little less than 4 weeks to go now, but our bug count is actually shrinking instead of growing. There are going to be a lot of late nights ahead of us, but we're finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. ...

Sony Corp. will design chips with Infineon Technologies AG to reduce development costs at its consumer electronics division, the world's second largest.

Sony and Infineon's Qimonda AG will own equal stakes in a Tokyo-based venture that will design DRAM chips that speed up data processing in cameras and mobile phones, the companies said today in a statement. Elpida Memory Inc., a Sony supplier, fell on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on concern it will lose orders.

The agreement will help Tokyo-based Sony reduce costs as Chief Executive Officer Howard Stringer overhauls the chip operations to raise overall profitability to the highest this decade. The semiconductor unit, which makes processors for PlayStation 3 game consoles, posted a 10 billion yen ($86 million) loss last year.

Sony Computer Entertainment BeNeLux made the official announcement today in Amsterdam, The Netherlands at the pressevent 'Welcome Home'. It is unknow wether the game will be playable in more European languages but at least Dutch and French voices are confirmed.
